Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Summary of GP Forum - By US 10yr employee

  1. Q3 profits, especially U/S and Chemicals will be obscene. A portion of our executives (even lower tier) pay is 'profit sharing', not just RSUs. This is great news for them, as they will rake in significantly more cash than previous years.
  1. Slightly under 10% attrition IS THE COMPANY PLAN, as we grow out our non-US centers. To not bottom out morale, Houston will continue to pay lip service to employees while HR will keep the salaries capped to drive the necessary resignations. This is the only solution aside from additional layoffs.
  1. Our executives are so out-of-touch, they literally don't understand employees WFH desires. I can't believe they are that unintelligent to think that 'flex your day' and flexible WFH are the same, so I must assume they are just wildly out-of-touch.

Prepare yourself fellow coworkers. 2) above is not just a '21 thing. The current stance towards us lower tier employees will be the same for YEARS until we actually need the resignations to level off.

@2bfl+1djwKkiQ This is totally on point! GP, BPO, whatever we're called, are EMIT on steroids in the haven't got a clue saloon...!

Sad state of affairs, if you think EMIT is a hot mess, GP just said “Hold my beer and watch this”.

Everyone on the stage needs to go. How many VPs are needed - outside Guyana, there’s no real work, and won’t be for some time.

Yes, while there’s an uptick in spend, resources aren’t needed for OBO work; no one wants BF projects- especially the refineries (too costly).

The truth on exit surveys is that they are not being conducted. Even when they were the data was never shared with the org considering that those who leave are obviously not a good fit.

Hence the inbreeding of creeps continues, because those who leave, thier opinion never mattered. Ever.

@krw+1djwKkiQ and from where did all this data come from? Let guess, from HR, right? Well, the word on the block is HR hasn't been sending out exit surveys to everyone and being selective to include from those received back. Isn't TGs org. doing an awesome job you guys. I know it!

It was the same old story and no change from any of the other recent forums. The guys speaking are clueless, tone deaf and out of touch. Nothing inspirational or motivating. The comment on no regrets about how the organisation behaved over the last 18 months was insulting.

Was DA even listening to what she should have been talking about?

What we get at these forums is the same old numbers and figures pulled out, focusing on the financials and nothing on the importance of employee engagement to deliver these and improved results. No communication of strategy or vision... Carry on as you are and we'll also make mega bucks out of LCS, which appears to be the new energy poverty replacement.

I missed any updates on algae.

To me they are talking out of two sides of their mouths; look at all these places we will work, but they won’t be available to you because we are squeezing you out.

The writing is on the wall folks and we are gluttons for punishment if one decides to ride it out. GTFO.

GP Forum is President and VPs presenting to all of GP. They honestly did a good job... but Dallas has them selling us a s*** sandwich. It still tastes bad

BP, Chevron, Shell all offer WFH. Why XOm needs b-ms in chairs is beyond me.

Can someone please help, what was the GP Forum? What was the audience/who were the speakers? (can't be names I guess but like generally VP/L1/L2 business line vs gsc etc)

It's in a sarcastic tone. But, I'd say that is pretty much what I got from the forum as well. Management painted it as a positive, but I'd say the average employee heard what's typed here.

What the summary missed that I heard:

  • We will have fewer expat opportunities across the board.
  • Houston acknowledges our expats are getting screwed, they've raised it to HR... but, action seems very unlikely.

Is this satire or did it really happen?

  1. Obscene is not the term most would use. Good yea but obscene no.
  1. Attrition is not planned for 10% for all areas, most will be much lower going forwards as attrition is being calculated for projects based on 2021 Q1 staffing levels. And we will have plenty of retirements and have had plenty quit already. Pair this with normal PIP and you get your headcount change. Salaries raises will be disproportionate towards those we want to keep vs those we don’t (which is how is should be at any company?)
  1. You can WFH, tons of people still are. And actually most people who have left have not cited that as being a main reason. It was a factor, but it was not the driving factor. It’s not “official” but everyone’s doing it
