Career advancement

In my case there has been no career progression for a long time so now I'm considering leaving.
I tried but I didn’t achieve anything significant here and I don’t believe the problem was in me anymore.

Honestly, how much were you able to grow a career here?

I was an Engineer at SLB going through the SETC Ladder. My promotion to Principal was refused because it was considered unfair to others in my group if I was promoted, even I completed all the requirements and received A for the past 4 years in my SLP-3. So I quit. If you feel your career is not advancing, leave. Don’t waste your time. It’s only going to get worse at SLB because they have a huge debt. Gone are the days of double digit raises.

Spent some time at Halliburton and Weatherford before coming here. Management has gotten worse across the board at the service companies. These days you either stagnate at your current level or, if you have managed to advance, you get cut because you earn too much.

Honestly don’t expect any advancement. Your n+2 decides your career and if he/she decided you stay in your current role, there is nothing you can do about it. You really need to consider leaving. It’s only going to get worse. The benefits and pay raises are mediocre. The company is in decline and the upper managers just help each other to stay employed while the employees have to work crazy hours for little to no recognition.

At the Florence Ky facility if you are good at your job they won’t let you advance at all. That way they don’t have to backfill your job. I’ve been a victim of it and I’ve seen it happen to many others.
