How to get promotion here and not be a brown noser?

"White male caucasian?" In that case, add being redundant to your list.
If at all possible be a white male caucasian, maybe an evangelical or Mormon if you really want to move up the ladder.
An honest question about getting promotions and all you get is grade school and whiny responses. This whole board would be funny if it wasn't so sad. More proof that you don't always get a participation award or stars on your white board.
Simple answer "hard work". No matter what others tell you, hard work is noticed.
Seems that everyone believes promotions should just be "given" to them or you have to brown nose. My very first day many years ago, my work mentor told me, "you must get emotionally involved in your work". I'll let you think about that and examine yourself, but hard work and doing what is right when no one is looking is what it takes. You need to know your job backwards and forwards. I always had access to my supervisors and I would go in and talk to them personally about career paths. I may not have heard what I wanted, but I still did my best without whining. Whining is only for those that can't do for themselves. I hired on with the company so I could work hard and eventually retire. It's a job. And many times you might have to work extra hours without compensation. The company is not government handout. Through the years you'll have different supervisors and you have to adapt, not brown nose. And I'll tell you an absolute fact - Brown nosers' only brown nose because they can't do their job.
Simple
- Work More
- Cry More
Promotions are good. If you need more cash, brown nose a little more. Why make this hard on yourself? Seems simple to me. I dont have any respect for those who don't do what they have to in order to get promoted. I did not invent the system here. But, I do understand how the game is played. Either you play the game or your do not. But, if you do not play the game, you have no right to be mad if you do not get promoted
If you work hard and they like you, they will have a schedule and plan for you for promotions. But it will be slow and disappointing. If you are deemed Hi-P-t the promotions will come quickly and often.
Leave for another company, wait a couple of years, then come back to jump a couple of salary levels.
Works every time. Just ask around.
Just look up the Chris Rock salad tossing routine
If at all possible, don’t be a male Caucasian.
A brown nose will get you far.
British accent will take you far.
Preferably public school English or Scottish, but not THAT Scottish. Northern Irish only in rare cases. Welsh need not apply.
