Competitor company now has an open position that I have been waiting for a long time. I’d rather dedicate myself completely to getting that job, but on the other hand I’m also a little scared if it’s risky to reach out to a competitor? Does anyone have any experience with this? I'm afraid Windstream will find out and I will lose this job without getting a job with our competitors.

To the partners of the people who keep coming back to comment here after leaving Windstream years ago: leave your relationship now. This is a red flag that they cannot ever let go of something they once had, no matter how terrible it was.

Bad news, the ILEC business is spinning off as a new entity after the 1st of the year.
Some employees will become Windstream/ Frontier ilec employees.
I echo the sentiment about Frontier. Much worse than Windstream.

I think it's happening more often than you think. LOTS of people are passively looking. When the right opportunity comes along jump at it. They can't fire you for interviewing elsewhere!
