Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Will Ford be firing employees who refuse to answer the Vaccine status questions and take the vaccine?

Alot of people at Ford are talking about this, afraid for their job if they dont give up personal medical information and personal moral choices. What is everyone thinking on this? Especially since UAW are exempt from this?

This isn’t a partisan issue.

Last week we were asked to report our decision on whether or not to receive a medical treatment. This week we’ll be asked to justify our health decision by either divulging more about our medical history or justifying our religious beliefs.

Who within the giant corporation that we work for will be deciding if our decision was justified? Will a lawyer decide if our medical choice was sound? Will someone in HR be reviewing our religious beliefs?

I chose to be vaccinated many months ago and did report my vaccination status to Ford, but do not feel that Ford should make either mandatory. So why did I report my vaccination status? I just didn't feel strongly enough to risk losing my job and I suppose it's possible I may regret this decision one day when they do cross my line.

@3asy+1da4CxYD - I didn't and I don't expect to be told that I shouldn't bother logging on after lunch.

Informing Ford of details of my personal health condition is not part of the conditions of employment I signed on. Additionally contract conditions cannot be changed unilaterly, however Michigan is an at-will state and can end the work agreement at any time.... except for reasons prohibit by law.

I'm not going to sweat it when my manager says, "I need to have you do this"... I've been ensuring I have a rainy day fund for a long time. I hope all of you have too.

In a sand society an employee could email an executive and raise a concern.
We lost that at least 18 months ago.

Funny thing is a lot of us have been back since May 2020 and there have been very few reported cases.

Now that they have the numbers you can bet HR is at it night and day applying a weighted formula of age, service time, gender, and race to determine how much they can save by mandating vaccination even if the feds allow weekly testing.

Sad to say, it's expected from the worlds most trusted company...

Soooooooo, which one of you didn't answer the MANDATORY vax question by today?

And yes it was MANDATORY. Did you not see the emails corporate sent to your LL5+ telling them that they have direct reports that have failed to answer?

Heads gonna roll next week for the vax un-status'd.

Feds are stalling and getting companies to push for compliance.

Even after the OSHA reg comes out there will be lots of lawsuits and challenges.

So far its been about a month the federal buearcracy has made no moves towards an employer enforced vaccine mandate.

Time to get vaccinated. It is hard for ex-Ford folks to get positions that pay remotely what they are currently making unless they are young. Also, the vaccines work so it is something you should do for you, your family and your fellow human beings.

Don't get vaccinated. Good luck finding another job. This is public safety, not your personal freedom.

Has anyone been in contact with legal counsel for advice on which is a better legal strategy (assuming Ford eventually proceeds to termination of employee):

  1. Not reporting vaccination status, or
  2. Reporting status of unvaccinated?

Everybody seems to be ignoring the fact that Ford needs to maintain a safe work environment. If half your workforce is unvaccinated, it creates an unsafe work place.

As for HIPAA, you don't know who on your team has what medical conditions. I have several friends that fall into a high risk category due to their various health conditions. If they catch it, they will die.

@hgp, hate to burst your bubble, but there are people who are vaccinated but are refusing to share that with Ford since as mentioned in the FAQ "Ford isn't subject to HIPAA" so as much as they talk about confidentiality and privacy there is no legal penalty for if/when they divulge this information. Or the system holding it is hacked.

Some of us believe that our medical & health records are our own dang business, so while Ford can ask, we can also say "nah, no thank you".

Re-read that mail... it says as the first step in enforcing the mandate. Also, it does not specify any specific disciplinary actions for failure to comply by the indicated date. That said, we all know that any follow-up notification coming next week will break out the stick and will include "up to, and including, termination"

What I find frustrating is that there is no recognition of not being vaccinated due to it being redundant if you've recovered since as of last Friday approx 9% of Michganders/Michiganians (918k of 10 million) fall into this category. At minimum it's redundant, at worse it increases your sensitivity and reaction if you do catch covid again. This is called a cytokine storm and can easily be fatal.

Vaccinated people are having no issues registering so basically those not registering are clearly not vaccinated and are doing themselves no favors. As one poster pointed out, failure to do so could result in discipline including termination. They are already generating completion rate status reports to senior management. That said anti vaxers, belly up to the bar with your bravado and stand on the fake issue and register your lack of vaccination because they will know by COB Friday so no sense deluding yourself you are proving or hiding anything by non compliance.

"Will Ford be firing employees who refuse to answer the Vaccine status questions and take the vaccine?"

If you're a Ford employee then you would know that-

  1. Ford is not currently requiring employees to be vaccinated.
  2. Ford is requiring that employees report vaccination status and refusing to report can result in disciplinary action including termination.

I think a majority of those not complying are the more experienced employees. We already have lost too much experience, every program is drowning due to lack of leadership, poor moral, and inexperience. If Ford eliminates more experience, and replaces with engineers that are not qualified, I can see Ford going under. We may already be past the point of no return.
