Ford Explorer makes CR Top Ten (Least Reliable Vehicles to Avoid)

Scoring only 8/100.

The 2022 Ford Explorer has the second-lowest predicted reliability score of any vehicle that qualifies under Consumer Reports‘ standards (Mustang was third-lowest).

We earn our (poor) reputation everyday.

Ford produced some mixed results in Consumer Reports‘ latest annual reliability study, ranking below average overall as a brand despite improving from 2020, while the Ford Mustang Mach-E ranked highly enough to earn “recommended status, though the Ford Mustang slipped in its reliability scoring enough to cause it to lose its recommended rating. Now, a few months after the 2021 Ford Explorer landed on Consumer Reports‘ list of two- and three-row SUVs to avoid, the organization has named the 2022 Ford Explorer as one of the 10 least reliable cars available today.

Consumer Reports derives its reliability scores from data collected from owner surveys that focus on 17 common problem areas, ranging from drivetrains to paint and interior trim. CR also weighs these issues based on how serious they might be, then calculates a predicted reliability score for each model. The vehicles considered for this list must be at least two model years old, and each is scored on a scale of 1-100, with 100 representing the most reliable vehicle.

In that regard, the 2022 Ford Explorer has the second-lowest predicted reliability score of any vehicle that qualifies under Consumer Reports‘ standards, behind only the Mercedes-Benz GLE and its score of 5. The Explorer finished with a predicted reliability score of 8, ranking below a number of other models including the the Ford Mustang (9), Chevrolet Silverado (11), Chevrolet Corvette (13), Volvo XC90 (17), Volkswagen Tiguan (17), Tesla Model Y (18), Chrysler Pacifica (18), and Subaru Ascent (18).

This is a clear picture of the decline of a once great automotive company. Once a very dependable "BUILT FORD TOUGH" Now we are below average. As for EV hardware reducing the amount of hourly people. I will say this when that clown Hackett was in charge, he came right out in one of his earlier townhalls and said a 30-40% reduction in labor. That part is true. Now for the quality don't worry we are more focused on TVM and rushing product than doing it right the first time.
As for the UAW look what the oval did to the OAP Plant. As soon as Biden was sworn in the company pulled the plug on its promise for new product in there. Going south of the border. I can speak from experience do not underestimate the quality of the Mexican workforce. In most cases they are very eager and proactive with the assembly process development. Here in NA From Senior Management, Salaried, and hourly we underestimate our competition resolve too many times and we all pay for it.

The Chief Engineers and Vehicle Line Directors responsible for Explorer and Aviator should be fired. Also, why they build anything in Chicago boggles the mind.

Bill will announce everyone who was fired under the vaccine mandate policy was directly or indirectly connected to the Explorer and its all roses now that they are gone.

EV’s will make everything better at Ford. So much easier to assemble with non-union workers and all the quality problems go away.

What a farce.

2022 Ford Explorer - the second-lowest predicted reliability

To note this title is still earned after 2 years of allegedly trying to fix issues after launch. It is obvious Ford is not serious about improving quality in a meaningful way. The company focuses too much resources on things that do not improve or develop vehicles. What you ask? How about dei, covid mandates, and reducing headcount.
