Thread regarding Norfolk Southern Corp. layoffs

Running us off

I am to the point where I am ready to leave just to reduce the stress. I don't see how a lot of the things they do are legal, much less ethical. You should not have to chase your pay after working a scheduled shift. Payroll constantly waits until the last minute to adjust your pay and sometimes misses the deadline, good luck getting it fixed after that.
I work crazy hours, away from home, in a dangerous environment, all the while observing the rules that are mandated. All I want is to be paid what I am entitled. I don't care about penalty claims anymore, those days are long gone. I just want what I am entitled to. I give you how ever many hrs and you in turn compensate me for said time. What is so hard about that? And they wonder why there are so many of us that are ticked off, taking our time. NS you are going to be left with a bunch of rookies on the ground led by a bunch of rookies in management. You are running off all the tenured employees that know how to railroad (management included). What is it going to take to make you realize that your employees are your most valuable asset? Payroll and Labor Relations your destroying this company. I sit on a train all night and stew on how I am away from my family and know that my pay is going to be short. Makes me want to be a real model employee. 221 months in, 19 to go. I really don't think its worth it. I only wish the stockholders knew what was really going on. The people you are losing, all the miles and hrs they have under their belt. Then the people you are replacing us with, ACT's never even been on a train and your requiring them to be RCO qualified before they even mark up. Another Grannitville is inevitable.

It'll keep going until International steps up. I wish there was a way to kick SMART off the property. One Union One Voice. Imagine how strong we would be if that happened. JF and JS are worthless. We need to to all send our delegates to vote for anyone BUT a incumbent. Everyone in office needs to be ran out for failure to do ANYTHING. The general and local levels are doing the best they can. They have no control over anything, and are really only acting as middlemen. The carrier is going to do what they want when it comes to policy, discipline, time claims, and worst of all agreements. There is nothing we can do about it without a binding court order. The times are coming back before the RLA was established. Its going to get ugly if we want it fixed. Otherwise we all just need to shut up and bend over and hope they sp-t on it at least before ramming it in.

It's time for the executives of all the railroads to own up to the truth that they created the supply chain problem that this country currently has.

If you haven't figured it out yet, they don't care. Why do you think they haven't signed any contracts yet? Because they are planning or at least waiting to see if other Class 1s can get away with using contractors. NS has them on the ground already in certain yards doing inspections and rail work. Once they realize they can operate with them, good bye mechanical and track maintenance. Only employees that remain will be management and transportation. It's coming. Mark my word.

First off, modern day company management have no clue of the value of experience. Especially hands on experience. They’ve never done a days manual labor in their life. They think employees are plebes. They do not view people as an asset, only a liability. In their twisted college educated mind people only cost money. They do not add value. This I think is a direct result of worthless universities teaching everything to students but common sense and practical business management. Cool charts, graphs, 5s, and other useless but “impressive” stuff. God help this country….
