Thread regarding Ford layoffs

The Great Resignation

I can see that the Great Resignation is happening full force at Ford. The attrition is worse than ever, and I didn't even think that would be possible. On one hand, I'm glad it's happening. The more people leave, the fewer they'll need to lay off. On another hand, most of the people who are leaving are our best employees, which doesn't bode well for our future. I guess we'll have to wait and see how that'll play out in the long run.

There are 30 salaried employees at my location that will not comply. Most are senior employees and are happy to be terminated with pension. There is only 200 salaried so it will be interesting in the new year.

So disgusted with the company.

We settled our finances over the last two years, to live off of minimum wage. Not everyone is going to require a shot, but we leveraged our NOT need a company to survive. We can sit out for over a decade. If we want to not interrupt finances, I we can find a minimum wage job at $17-$20, and still pay the bills, and put food on the table.

In the future, minimum wage might be $25-$30, or $30 to $40. Who cares then?

As society progresses, these corporations have zero hanging over the public heads.

Given the current conditions, and the probability that interest rates will rise - affecting pension lump sums in 2023 - I would expect a large number of retirements next year.

Yupper those who can’t leave because they don’t have any real skills amped up their backstabbing, credit stealing and blame game — as they fear involuntary separation. Those with skills just pick up their cards and go to a better job.
Ford gets what it deserves for valuing the wrong type of employees.
Laughing all the way to the bank.

@ite+1dSnf5UD "How do you know the attrition is worse than ever?" Well, there is more cr@p to deal with than before, and less time to do a proper work. Some people have left, some positions have disappeared, some have been pushed into other teams, making it harder to follow an established process, or to find an answer (or a knowledgeable person).
Around 3 years ago we switched from Waterfall projects to Agile. At the same time, management recognizes that 16 hours per sprint are spent in Agile related meetings. How can something be called Agile and take 20% of your regular time?
We keep changing so many things at the same time, without discussing with other dependent teams, that we disrupt ourselves FOR WORSE. DEI meetings, outsourcing jobs to Mexico and India, cutting health care benefits to retirees, VSSP, layoffs, vaccine's mandate, etc., have people freaking out, and moral is down. Who wants to work like that? Maybe is not the tapping your shoulder attrition, but is attrition nonetheless.

"How did you determine it was in fact Ford's brightest who left?" Well, usually the best employees are the ones who leave first, because they have the knowledge or the passion that all companies look for. Bad employees, backstabbers, friends and family of managers, tend to stay because it would be harder for them to find something similar or better elsewhere.

There is still some talent and knowledge at Ford. The question is for how long.

The ones that are able to walk away are the ones that can afford to walk away. Usually that means experienced, and many years of wealth accumulation. Yet still, there will be many that won't be able to afford it, that will roll the dice and walk based on principle.

However this plays out, its not the best way to keep talent in the ranks. It's a variable the corporation can't control (other than not mandating the unconstitutional mandate), so they will be left with the left overs, regardless of skill or talent.

Agreed - several who have resigned recently in my group were great employees. People are fed up with the BS and not willing to deal with it anymore.

How do you know the attrition is worse than ever? What percent of employees left in 2021 vs other years? How did you determine it was in fact Ford's brightest who left? Do you have any facts to share or just drama?
