Agree with @2kcs+1dSg30Cb
It is the cultural issues that continue to doom Fords efforts.

One example, Ford Credit outsourced a chunk of work to China.
There was deliberate ongoing sabotage of the project by North America IT infrastructure teams. Information and knowledge was hidden, changes were made deliberately to causes problems on the China side. There was a boondoggle China trip for selected team members to transfer knowledge, everyone knew it was for show.
Every chance the North America ITO mainframe team got they made it clear that the China team was incompetent and the work should be brought back to USA. When in fact the opposite was true in this case the China team was heaps more competent than the USA team. Countless issues and business expenses were caused by the sabotage. While a number of the initial saboteurs have retired, their successors continue the sabotage and attempts to remove work from China to this day.

Another attempt to outsource to a vendor failed only because an ITO staff member was directed by LL5 not to disclose that a there was a simple configuration change that would resolve all the vendor issues. Lack of integrity and Petty political games being played by LL5s sunk the project. There was a celebration at a local bar when the project was sunk. It was disgusting seeing people toasting and boasting about their actions costing Ford millions of dollars.

These are not isolated incidents. Culture is the problem.

@1ewu+1dSg30Cb - some of the technology has changed, and that's been a good thing for most of us in general, but what hasn't changed is the cultural and "expertise" issues. It's those things that keep dooming outsourcing wholesale.

If the approach is changed from shipping jobs out of America to lower cost of business places to letting people remote work from where ever they want in the US and adjusting salaries accordingly than that's another story, and I can see that working out.

Why no update for agency or ps?

I see the vaccination emails for Ford FTE going around, and some related information posted in the corporate home page, but no word regarding Agency or PS personnel. Perhaps it would be better to comeback into Ford through an Agency...

These times are different. The technology has changed, (Webex and Laptops) and entire departments have be moved to remote sites (homes). It has been proven that it is logistically possible to move large amounts of work off site. Not to mention, the new Ford Engineering facility in Mexico just waiting to be filled. This was even on the @Ford Online page.

From the Ford U.S. Vaccination Guidelines Q&A

“The majority of our salaried employees have some direct or indirect linkage to federal contracts. Regardless, Ford has made the decision to require vaccination for almost all of our salaried employees, regardless of whether they are covered under the federal contractor requirements.”

So they had a choice of what to dance to. And what is indirect linkage , something like “ heard if from a friend who heard if from his cousin 4th removed mailman ? “ By this reasoning somebody making Cheez-Its is indirectly linked to a federal contract because they are sold in the Ford cafeterias.

And still haven’t seen a word anywhere about negotiations or status for hourly , represented salary, and salaried employees at manufacturing facilities.

Hmm, strange - I never got an email, I reported my vac status, but filed for an accommodation. They acknowledged receive it, and said a decision will be made on or before 12/8 - but crickets since then.

Plus since the 5th circuit court blocked the mandate at the moment for all private employers, how does Ford think they will not be sued over letting people go? Federal Contractor status does not mean you still are not a private employer. The Federal Government actually owns some manufacturing plants making planes, bo--s, etc - the people that work there are Federal employees, so subject to the federal employees mandate. This will not end well for Ford..

No crying here. I could have taken several buyouts in the past but enjoyed the job and am still productive .
If by some miracle the mandate falls apart I’ll stay, but it’s different here now and everyone who is here feels and sees it. The mandate is only a small part of that difference.

I don’t have any animosity towards the vaccinated. Most of my family is , as well as my neighbors . Since all this started the only precaution I’ve taken has been wearing a mask. I’ve been on site 5 days a week since May 2020. I won’t be forced into something that has become purely political for the Company and the government at this point.

@1svv+1dSg30Cb, I totally agree with your take on it. Seems to me that we see these waves of trying to outsource to cheaper locales every 10-15 years, or maybe it's every 3-4 CEO's.... basically once the institutional memory of the folly starts to fade it gets repeated.

One time it was entertaining was when IT help desk functions went to India for a year or so, and just about the time things were all documented and starting to no longer be a complete joke were sent over to the Philippines since it was cheaper there.

@lmj+1dSg30Cb - Yep, management has proven willing to send jobs to other nations if they can make it look like it'll save some money and enable them to collect their large "merit bonus" for the year. So why in the world should we be bothered to report person medical information to them, or possibly be even bullied into a treatment we have reservations about, when it's comes with zilch for ensuring you get to stick around?

Short version is, why be afraid of getting terminated now over covid shots when chances are you'll be replaced over labor costs within a few years or less no matter what you do?

Good luck replacing talent with that from India and Mexico. We've been trying this for 50 years, and it's a monumental failure each and every time. There's a reason why they always get the lite work, if any at all. The threats of replacement are nothing new, they've been around longer than most people in the industry have been alive. In the 70's, it was the philippines, but the results were the same then, as they are now. Only now, we keep jumping around to new oversea talent. Results never change.

That reason is because you can't take talent of the rocket age, and expect those with the understanding of the stone age, to keep up. The understanding of automotive technology, and working experience is vastly different around the world. It's a hard reality, but if you want top talent, you don't go hiring it from 3rd world countries. Perhaps a pocket of talent, but not enough to matter.

So, what are we to do? ... please tell.. The phrase "You have the right to remain silent" has now become "You will remain silent".

Exactly! Ford has contracts with the federal government to do work. Not to mention money for EVs. This makes the federal government the customer. The customer says dance... we have to dance.. sorry. Back to layoff topics.

Vaccine, Vaccine, Vaccine... or dear.. we have to report the vax status!! ha! The work at home people have much more to worry about. How out of touch can everyone be??!!
If you can work at home, someone WILL do your job in India and or Mexico! There already has been announcements of cuts in the near future of exporting jobs. True, if you're required to work on site.. the job could be sent to Mexico but it is more difficult for Ford to do so. Cuts can be as high as 30-40% in the near future. I know I will get a ton of down votes for this... oh well..

Vaccinated at home is a great example of the logic this administration has. Be happy you don’t have to wear a mask at home or stay 6 feet apart from your family while working there,

To be on the safe side you should put a piece of tape over the webcam and make sure there are no microphones plugged in.

I’m only half kidding , these people are extremists.

@pnm+1dSg30Cb While you may want to get your resume out there, I'm guessing that if the OSHA mandate goes to court and loses, then Biden's EO for Federal Contractors will suffer the same fate and Ford will back off. Two wild cards, (#1) obviously if the court battle over the OSHA mandate somehow wins and (#2) if this will be resolved before January.

I got it on Nov 10th this time the date was updated to Jan and the threat of 30 days unpaid leave was included.

I am still scratching my head how a wfh employee that is unvaccinated is a workplace hazard. I also dont work on a federal contracts so somehow this applies to me.

Oh glorious vaccine all hail Lord Fauci father of noble lies and wuhan bioweapon lab says i need to take glorious vaccine or face termination. Welcome to religious Athiest He-l where Government and their claim of all knowing science is their religion.

@wmh+1dSg30Cb - you're blaming the victim for not receiving the mail when the fault is going to be either the sender (incomplete list to send to, typos, etc) or the mail transports acting up. It's easy to take the reliability of email for granted, but it's not actually a guaranteed mechanism by nature.

A bit more info - I posted the original post. I got the email this morning. I am salaried in the US and in IT. I do not go into the office so it seems like a blanket requirement for all salaried in the US.
