Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Program Coordinator I treated as a slave.

With the Holiday fast approaching, any news on possible layoffs in December? Just wanted to know because it appears management is pouring work on us, giving each of us two employee's worth of work. We have had to do 16 hours of work in a 8 hour day. More specifically as a Program Coordinator I, I have to not only engage members, but now they want us doing coordination work like COVID Screening, Finding PCP for members, Providing Transportation for members, Proving meals for members, and sending catalogs. So basically I doing 2 different positions... engagement and coordination which is actually 2 different job titles. So this is 2 person job which I am handling as 1 person. This is slavery as I personally want to call out Shannon, Senior Director Medical Management. What the f*ck.....what else will you want us to do...play the role of RN nurse as well? Its ridiculous and shameful I work for Centene.

I never thought I would have to go back to slavery but that is what exactly is happening at Centene!

Damnnnn and I thought my department was having issues but dare I say since integration I haven't had to do hardly jack aside from a couple of weeks of actual work but I know it won't last forever. Iam still worried about more layoffs and of course what will happen come March when they force everyone back. Also I thinks it's unfair that wellcare employees that were remote before get to stay remote at least in our department.

I’m a program coordinator too, and I have a conspiracy theory about this… My original company was acquired by Centene about a year and a half ago, at that point they told us we weren’t getting raises or bonuses and we will have to wait. The following year literally nothing was said about bonuses. This year after implementing impossible quotas, they now are finally mentioning bonuses and merit increases, ONLY IF you meet or exceed the quotas. This is their slick way of overworking us and not giving us any sort of increase in pay. BTW the position that I am in now is very far removed from the role I initially applied for. And to be completely honest, calling to engage a member in case management should be an automated job done by a robot or a simple letter in the mail. It’s bad enough the company is an organized, but now it’s coordinators have to suffer the blows from angry and frustrated members. I feel like such an ahole doing this job because I’m not helping anyone, not myself and especially not the members.

Yes, this sounds familiar. And usually if you bring it up they’ll try to pretend the problem is you and your inability to effectively multitask and/or some other gap in your skills or work ethic. You know the game. And it’s all a game. If they admitted the business model was built on taking advantage of nearly everyone and forcing them to do 2+ jobs for the price of one, well then it would be much harder to attract the other unsuspecting newbies. All you can typically do is politely and with a “good attitude” ask how long it might be expected that you continue to do both functions. Or if you’re willing to keep doing it but want better compensation/a title that actually reflects what you do, then politely ask about that. Then listen closely to their response. If it seems indefinite or that they won’t even admit you’re doing more than one role or worse accuse you of not being a team player/some other attitude problem, then immediately find another role elsewhere and give notice. Once you do, they may try to offer you some sort of raise or promotion to keep you, but you know how they’ll behave once the risk of losing you seems to have disappeared, so if you go to the trouble of finding a new role….take it!
