Thread regarding Citrix Systems Inc. layoffs

Raleigh engineering - gather here!

Raleigh eng leaders probably rubbing their hands in glee. Made most of this golden opportunity to fire engineers they’ve been targeting for years. Not giving any space to succeed to these ICs or focusing on their strengths. Fired engineers who don’t self-promote, don’t make the right noises, and are not part of their cliques. All under guise of them being culture misfits. Meanwhile product has no future but somehow eng leaders take no accountability.
Also notice the large proportion of brown folks being shown the door - and higher proportion of white majority coming in as new hires, specially in leadership roles. Very obvious what “culture transformation” is underway.

Survivors - to survive and flourish, do what the brown managers / directors do - suck up to the majority. Be one of them or be gone.

I was told my position would be rehired in India with 2 people to do my job and would still save the company money. Good luck with that.

More labor statistics numbers. https://www.bls.gov/cps/cpsaat11.htm
15% of engineering managers are Asians. No more than 35% of individual contributors software engineers are Asians. The statistics includes all the Asians. Current brown Asian representation in Citrix Raleigh is much higher.

Do talk to HR and your manager. Do open Slack and Outlook and count brown Asians in (and I quote) One particular team. I encourage you to prove me wrong with actions and numbers and not an empty talk. I encourage you to see it for yourself. I encourage you to let the author be bitter and angry and look at the facts.

That will be awesome. Talk to HR, your manager and VP and seek concrete data. It must be obvious to you all but don’t let things wrapped under general Citrix demographic. The concern is a pattern with one particular team, not Citrix.

Let this not get into a generic Citrix pitch or a emotional shout out wrapping all minorities.

To 20 plus people who liked this ugliness… If you feel your race causes unfair treatment talk to your manager, HR, or the VP the author hates so much.
To the author… I feel bad and empathetic for you. It is hard and difficult. It makes your immigration a mess. But… It doesn’t give you rights to employ the saddest issue of our society for you personal gains. Many groups are underrepresented in citrix engineering… African-Americans, Women, Latinas and Latinos… Brown Asians are not one of them. You have to be ashamed

It’s about the dubious pattern of change in the last couple years in engineering management

the only pattern is changing from 75% brown Asians in management to 50%. the pattern is changing to the percentage that fairly represents local demographics and making citrix workforce diverse. if you are not happy about the fair representation… if you want 75% of management to be brown Asians while they represent only 7 to 8% of local population it tells a lot about you. is it because it makes it easier for you to achieve higher levels and compensation you dont deserve?

Well, from the disgusting smell it felt like you pulled it out from somewhere else.

Since you googled it too, can you share the Google provided link that mentions Engineering manager’s demographics in Raleigh? LOL…

Its more like 15%. Also that’s not the point. It’s about the dubious pattern of change in the last couple years in engineering management hiring and leaving, and trust me every employee knows what’s happening whether you show ignorance or not.

And while irrelevant point, Asian demographic in WC is like 13% not 8%, but importantly you are missing the STEM proportion and people employable for certain roles. Account for it and the percentage will even be more for people who are match for engineering roles. Rounding of the whole population is illogical way to prove what you want to prove.

But I forgive you my friend for manipulating the data is what is ingrained in management role, and you seem to be picked it. Keep making things up for showing off fake successes like our leaders, while the company continues to march towards failure.

if you retain your ability to think beyond your ugly biases you would go to linkedin and check engineering team at citrix. be honest with yourself. is it white only? citrix has so many problems but lack of diversity is not one of them

It’s as incorrect and illogical as it can be. This is the number for engineering management in Raleigh?

youre a numbers lover, arent you. lets do numbers. after restructuring. managers in raleig, 50% brown asians. individual contributors in raleigh, 35% brown asians. total population of all Asians in wake county, 7%. do you still dare to state brown Asians are underrepresented at citrix?

There were at least 3 in engineering.

3 whites and at least 9 brown Asians. what a diversity.

How many brown manager folks fired? Zero.

There aren't more than a couple to chose from :-). Almost everyone has left.
The fact is - no Manager was fired, Alas. The impact was shifted towards ICs, and hand dusted. That's wrong too.

How many white managers was under Girish? Zero.

Wrong. There were at least 3 in engineering. 2/3 are still there. At some point many excellent devops managers were also reporting to Girish. That was additional 2-3 more. Well I guess nobody paid attention to what color of skin a manager had then.

Moreover, is this the wrong info you have in mind to rationalize what has been happening and happened yesterday?

For anyone on these teams who values diversity and inclusion - consider moving to a different org (or company!). This org is very visibly building a homogeneous monoculture.

When I was with citrix some 3 years ago management consisted of brown asians exclusively. Who hired brown asians exclusively. It did not seem racist to you then. It finally got diversified and you started playing the racist card all of a sudden

Nut up and admit that you are an underachiever.

Yes A-ho-e, and you are an over achiever. Under your leadership Citrix has done amazingly well financially and is almost on the brink of being sold out. There has been zero products that have been successful.

Don't hide behind the cloak of 'racism', which was stamped out long ago and no longer exists.

Yes, A-ho-e. There is equality, happiness and peace everywhere. Now open your eyes, the night is over.

Folks asking for facts - do you disagree that Asians are underrepresented in the Raleigh eng management team? Do you disagree that this representation has steadily declined in the last 2 years? Do you disagree that % of Asians in these senior roles is very low, relative to % of Asians in wider talent tech industry pool outside Citrix? How many Asians have been hired or promoted to Staff+ levels in the last 2 years?

“Race had nothing to do with it” is the standard slogan of anyone blind to the discrimination. These factors influenced who was perceived as a low performer - and conveniently sacked yesterday.

LOL full of BS again.

I'm sorry for fellows fired regardless of the race

Oh you are sorry now? A while ago you and probably few other of your kind were justifying it as “got what they deserved” and sentiments of good riddance?

Yes it is a sensitive topic, someone gave the hard facts, now you are playing a sorry card when you don’t have anything to back your actions. Either put down hard facts to prove your point or get off this area.

Nice work, chameleon!

Simple fact of bringing race into picture says alot about topic starter and supporters. No professional qualities, no achievements mentioned, the topic starter derictly played race card with zero proof which is pretty sensitive issue in modern society, hoping for empathy. I'm sorry for fellows fired regardless of the race except for topic starter and alike. Pretty sure he used the same methods justifying his sh---y job etc. Fun fact, he doesn't even understand the point and asking for hiring stats... Well, good luck with such attitude and moral standards, glad Citrix got rid of such ballast.

Has OP ever considered the possibility that he/she/it is in fact a misfit?

How is OP a misfit? For stating the obvious truth instead of “fitting in” and playing along with these strong biases that exist?

This is not overnight. Suppressing of brown Asians on the Raleigh eng org has been going on, since the new VP came onboard. Asians in management and senior roles have been eased out, backfilling with non-Asians. An environment has been created where minorities are made to feel uncomfortable and awkward. Hence a lot of voluntary attrition from this demographic.

My recommendation - spread the truth on Glassdoor and bl—nd. Good luck Citrix Raleigh in attracting top talent.

Yes, that is what it is for Raleigh engineering. You seem to be from engineering leadership and that’s why you seem triggered. Here you go -

Fact 1 : 3/4 of those who were impacted today are Asians.

What was the criteria for them? Is it performance based? If so, why were some of these people recently promoted? For lack of performance?

I ask you to put it down in writing to all employees, if you are so sure of the justice that was done.

Fact 2: No Asian was hired in management since the VP Engineering took over and the team grew multifold. There were many backfills of Asians too.

The claim of 2/3 hires to be Asian is all made up and every employee knows it. Whom are you fooling?

Show the data during all hands, all right?

you insinuated that race was a deciding factor in Raleigh layoff.

So that justifies you demeaning your fellow colleagues and their contributions?
