I appreciate that other people might have landed on their feet but everybody's situation is unique. Being laid off would be devastating for me. I'm not close enough to retirement for that to be an option but I'm already at an age where I'm passed over for positions that I'm more than qualified for without a second thought. It sucks being at this point of my life and having to be so worried about my future but that's my reality. So I understand that some of you are trying to make people feel better about this, but you need to accept that for some of us, there is no better.

What you can not control you should not worry. What you can, try to maximize.
Worrying about getting laid off falls in the former category. Working on making yourself ready for knocking out the interview Is surely what you can control.
