Thread regarding Saudi Aramco layoffs

RSU posts getting erased

I guess that letting others know that the money employees have placed in this company stock in against the policies, but it's true, be careful with the employee RSU as they are getting deposited into non-active bank accounts and months go by and the money still not sent to the right overseas account, just be careful with your money as you may not get it once you leave that S&%* &*% of 3rd world country

Yep...after 17 years, this bank behavior seems all very plausible.
Problem is you pretty much need a local bank account these days. Years ago you could work around it but Aramco and the government have pretty much removed all the 'guardrails' for expats. Keep a small account with in kingdom working funds only.

Yes, the Saudi banks will keep your money in a heartbeat! I thought I lost my wallet with my iqama and the bank refused to allow me to withdraw any money.

After I found my wallet, an expat in HR advised me to take out a Saudi bank loan and renew it each year as an insurance policy against being laid off. I should have listened to his advice.

There are 100 ways to legally rob you in KSA
Knew people who turned in their iqama on the way out, a week or two before actually leaving, who discovered their accounts frozen with no way to get their money out. They left their frozen account behind and went home.

Knew a guy who died, hospital took and turned in his iqama, all of his accounts got frozen right away leaving his family with no resources and no way to access them. I dont know if they ever got anything, they got sent home, were still trying months after he passed away and they left the kingdom just to get the money the guy earned and deposited in a Saudi bank back.

Knew a guy who was on vacation and got in an accident, was in the hospital for extended time in his home country. It was at least a year before their own things were packed and returned. His car was in his garage on four flats by the time they got around to getting it open and getting the family’s personal things back. His wife could not return for them herself because they cut him from the payroll.

Just a few stories. Lesson - don’t put a dime in an account in KSA. Do your work, collect your salary, get it out and safe it somewhere before the ink dries on it.

Disclaimer: I ain’t a layoff victim and have no issues with the company one way or the other. Only thing I experienced was a smashed up car delivered after returning home and AXL or AXA or whoever insured the shipment claimed they could not follow the payment instructions on the claim and never paid anything for it. Wrote that off as a lesson LOL - we were just glad to be home.

It’s called netiquette, try following it and I’m sure your next post will stick. Few simple rules like don’t name names, don’t swear and don’t be rude to others.
