Thread regarding Belk layoffs

Stand Up, Speak Out or shut up and get back to work

One of our sister companies shows leadership.

‘You cannot pay your workers in passion’: Hot Topic workers walk out, leave viral letter calling out low wages 'We cannot support ourselves and our families.'

“We’re getting just an outpour, an insane outpour of international support,” said Elle Driskell Felts and Sarah Sailors in a jo--t message. “It’s all across the world; basically, it’s insane. And we really appreciate it; it means the absolute world to us, especially those of us who had especially hard times.”

“Hot Topic, on the outside, looks like a progressive and well-put-together career for employees like us. The pandemic opened our eyes to how clearly horrible the conditions were for our staff.

“For those struggling to get food on the table and working yourself to the bone to be able to have a home to come back to, now is your chance to fight for the respect and right to a living wage.”

This is the latest example of employees walking out of the workplace to protest low wages and subpar working conditions.

Hot Topic's parent company Sycamore Partners had no comment.

The lines have been drawn in the sand!

I think it's great that people are standing up for themselves. In my store people think that belk is the only option because they are scared and Sycamore is laughing all the way to the bank. Take a look at what is going in this country. Maybe people need to start caring.

Shut up and get back to work sounds like a great idea.

You cannot pay workers $11 an hour and expect someone to be enthusiastic about their job. it never is going to happen. A full time employee should be atleast $40,000 a year to support their family and that is the minimum!! sycamore partners is now at the center of the media spotlight and so are those terrible executives who make millions while drastically underpaid store level workers work their fingers to the bone. Yes we are talking about YOU...Lisa Harper, Don Hendricks, nir patel, and the rest! Greedy ba----ds!

A lot of the industries are struggling right now. Minors can’t legally do a lot of things or work the hours required to keep a store open and so without paying an adult a sufficient supervisory wage the whole system falls to cr-p. And now the kids all think they’re worth big bucks and it’s really insulting to the tenured staff.

Something something labor movement something something started before corona something something yay stock market f the p-e-ons
