Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

People who keep saying it's not that bad confuse me

I always have to wonder if they're trying to convince the rest of us or themselves. Or if maybe they haven't experienced work outside of AIG. I came here because the job came with a pay raise, and I regretted that decision within a year. It took me just a few months to realize some things are much more important than pay when it comes to work, like non-toxic culture, for example. I miss my old company more than ever these days. I feel sorry for those who think this is the way things should be.

People say it's not that bad to justify their toxic behavior.

I am stuck here for now but I have a plan to escape from AIG. So do others, especially younger people. This isn’t where you want to be for a career.

Meanwhile, AIG is paying extra bonuses to keep certain people to stick around and whip their teams to complete L&R separation. Think the rank and file will get anything? No, not the little people.

There are so many people that have been with AIG for a very long time. It becomes like a psychological disorder. You expect the shaft so when you get the shaft you just accept it as part of your job. Year after year you complain, but you don't want to lose your tenure and start over at a new company or you don't want to lose your potential severance that you have earned so you just do the minimum possible to keep your job just praying for the HR call day after day.

In and out a new management team comes every 3 to 5 years. All new execs and all of their friends. They all get million dollar bonuses to come and multi million dollar bonuses to leave. You get a 2% annual cost of living increase if you are lucky.

If AIG succeeds or doesn't is really not relevant in the long term. You just want paid for your years of service. Execs cheerlead and try to motivate because it means a lot to their bonus, but you know whether we bind another policy or not it really isn't going to change your life either way.

Until AIG addresses the legacy employees it will continue to fail. Solution? offer voluntary departures with severance. But no, that makes too much sense for this inept management team.

Depends what team are you in like any other big corp you could end up in a great team or in a bad one where manager is a bully

It depends on what area you work in or where you came from I guess.
For me, it's not toxic but rather sad.
I know I will be let go sooner than later like my wonderful ex co-workers were.
As I transfer duties daily to overseas.
I miss those guys. :-(

Some folks that have been there long enough can echo missing the "old company".
