Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

PIPs

Who has the final say in whether an employee is put on PIP or not? I'm starting to think that instead of being a tool to weed out the low performers, PIPs are being used by managers to get rid of employees they don't like for this or that reason. Is that even possible or is somebody else making the final decision on who gets PIPed?

@1vzh+1dI81PTl are you serious?
1 person wants to tank you and 19 does not give a fig about you. Agreement achieved.
1 person wants to tank you and she will agree with the other 19 people's tanking requirements so they will agree with hers. Quid pro quo.
Don't be naive

The entire assessment team of ~20 people has to agree. Very unlikely a single person can tank you unless all ~19 of the other people in the assessment meeting agree. There are some checks and balances.

OP, it’s only now that you’re “beginning to think” that the company uses the oversized PIP as a tool to target undesirable employees rather than to root low performers ? Where have you been in the last two years?
After a big layoff and two rounds of oversized PIP, it’s obvious that the next PIPs will ensnare people who two years ago were solidly ranked in the middle third or higher, according to our own “flawless” ranking.
Everybody knows the oversized, repeated PIPs are for targeted personnel reduction, the targets being older, “expensive” employees who couldn’t be hit during the layoff, as well as anybody disliked for one reason or another by the management.

Managers who haven't done any sort of real or technical work in 25+ years

Truth. It’s not what you’ve done. Your at the mercy of the sls. Gulf coast has a black widow sls in engineering that needs to get out of here. She’s suffering from bipolar disorder. Mild and meek in front of management but a tyrant with the employees. Pi-s her off and your done. She’s been to HR before so they know she’s a problem. Loosing the best engineer I ever met due to early retirement because of her.

The ExxonMobil ranking system is broken!

Thinking about employment at ExxonMobil? Run, run, run….

PiPs and ranking in general are not correlated with work contributions or performance. It is all about the buddy system. The department head can make "adjustments" to the ranking seriatim after the ranking sessions are complete without checks/balance from anyone
