Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

How do you manage to do as little work as possible?

Many here boast that they only work the bare minimum. I keep wondering how I fail to work as little as possible because I have a lot of work to do every day that can't go unfinished?

JP, we're doing our best. We're taking on the work of 3-5 people, former workloads of those that have been let go. We're not as obsessive and perfectionist as you are. We have a life outside work. Stop belittling people who do not meet your standards. Have a child to distract you from work. Thanks to your constant whines and complaints to your colleagues' managers, they now have been let go and there will be more work for us. And even now that they're leaving, you're still cracking your whip to make sure your products are out of door. You're unreal and have no sympathy. When everyone that do not meet your standards of work have left, thanks to your incessant wail and yowl, whom will you direct your complaints to next? Get a life, grow up, and take your meds.

Do the minimum necessary to get the job done and keep them happy. Sometimes that might mean having to work later hours to finish a project, which is the right thing to do, but never feel that you have to go the extra mile for them as if you are bucking for a promotion. As for this concept of “being valued” I really do not know what that means. If you’re intelligent, get your job done on time and accurately, well liked and are pleasant to work with, that’s appreciation enough from them

Become a manager. If you also kiss enough a-s, you’ll get the double whammy of also never getting laid off/ fired.

I've come to accept that nothing I do will make a difference. No additional work I take on will lead to more money or a promotion. So, I'm treating them as they are treating me - giving my least effort, cutting corners, and when I say something is complete, its because I moved most of the commitments to the next scrum. The only effort I'm working on is finding my next job.

Ask yourself why can’t it go unfinished.
More than likely you are putting the deadline on yourself.

If your workload has increased due to there is only so much you can do.

Has your pay increased in proportion to the increased workload? I know mine has not.

Yes we all don’t want to let our fellow coworkers down by not doing our fair share. But does that email, report, phone call, teams message, etc need to be returned in the next five minutes.

Set boundaries. This is another tactic. Realize you are important! Seriously! Your time is valuable and the sooner you recognize and appreciate it the better your work/life balance will be. This means don’t be afraid to say no. It’s a powerful word.

Lastly, look for ways to be more efficient without asking for more work. If your goal is to do a good enough job and have a life that is not devoted to TR then maximize for that.
