I got PIPed this year and after reading through here, I imagine I will be separated come end of year. My supervisor was unable to give any legitimate reason for the NSI ranking and PIP, and my coworkers have all verified that my performance has been fine and the ranking is BS. I’m actually about 30% underpaid currently relative to my position and experience, despite excellent performance (according to my peers, my supervisor doesn’t even understand what I do). I was planning to leave the company next fall anyways to go back to school so I’m not broken up about that but I was hoping to pay off more debt before I left. My question is: does IOL offer severance if you’re PIPed? And whether or not they do, is it worth consulting an employment lawyer to try to get severance or a better offer? Thanks if anyone has some insight on this.

Contact an employment lawyer and as a condition of signing the final release make sure the company pays your legal fees. The company will try intimidatory tactics. Their legal costs are relatively higher, so hang in there. I know a few former colleagues who tried that and it worked.
Yes, you will get severance and EI after severance runs out. So stay put, and don't quit.
If in doubt, consult an employment lawyer.
It’s worth a quick call to an employment lawyer. A lot of states are at will, which means the ‘er can fire the ‘we for any reason, as long as it’s not discriminatory (age, race, etc), but they have to follow their own handbook. Good luck. There are greener & happier pastures out there. Live simply and pay off your debt quickly. That provides greater freedom and mobility.
