When I joined Honeywell, this was considered a job for life. Yes, there were occasionally some cuts but there were plenty of areas that were considered safe. So unless you messed up majorly, you had job security. Losing that this far along in my career is a tough pill to swallow. I went from enjoying my job to worrying 24/7 whether I'd be cut before retirement within a few years. I almost envy new hires. At least for them, this is all they know. The rest of us know how it could be, which makes today's situation much harder to deal with.

Shock, maybe that explains why Hon practically crawled up Trumps ru-p to curry favor. Who did Darius help there, you or him? What did he get for that? Tax cuts for you or for tax cuts for rich (himself) and corps? Who paid more into the PAC to fund that, you or him?
Downvote away tRumpers, but this is the game. Use the fruits of your labor against you to line leadshits pockets. Ignore covid, let it ki-l off the economy and d-mb-classes, then use it to sweep 9% of the workforce under the rug without blowback.
Get out while you can
Unfortunately all functions at HW are nothing more than day labor positions, like the contractors and the gig workers. The next PIP or layoff is just around the corner. You have the establishment, politicians and corporations to thank for the state of America and the world. Thank your neighbors, coworkers and all the people that vote and support them.
Treat yourselves as contractors that is paid for the job you complete rather than the hours you put in to complete it. The faster you accept this fact, the quicker you will get on with the new way of life in corporate America.
I'm retired now. I remember the good old years fondly. I also remember when the evil nine block decimation system was instituted at then Allied Signal.
I hope Neutron Jack, who started all this and became a Wall Street hero in the process, is in a very toasty place in He-l.
If you can try to move roles about 1.5-2 years in. If there is a new posting you were hired for you should last 1.5 years. I was able to miss the last 4 layoffs that way…. But now I’ve given up. I will volunteer if they allow it. I got the 5 years more I wanted….
Do more with less? Or do less with less? Or do less and act like you're doing more. That's the key! Get some experience, pad the resume, sign up for huge projects, then leave. Win-win.
This isn't just a HW thing. About 20+ years ago Deloitte and the other "business consulting" firms started promoting the GE way of doing things...offshore jobs, slash benefits, push out the expensive old timers, move training from live/hands-on to the computer screen...
The fat cats at the top love it because it lets them get fatter at the workforce's expense.
There is no such thing as the gold watch for 40 years with the company...anywhere in Corporate America. This is no surprise to anyone who reads the business news or has worked elsewhere.
There was never job security at Honeywell. If you want that get a government job.
I have seen massive layoffs every ten years since 1985. Fortunately it is looking like the next set of layoffs will be in Shanghai and Beijing as we enter the new Cold War. I am hearing from relatives that new export controls are coming.
Suck it up snowflake. It is the "new" reality in almost every major corporation down to the smallest of businesses. If any one tries to tell you any different, they are lying. It's business, and never has been or never will be personal.
It's not really a "new" reality. It started almost 20 years ago in Phoenix and Southern California among many other Honeywell localities. It began when D.C. was appointed chairman and CEO of Honeywell in 2002.
Honeywell used to employ over 100K people in the USA. It's down to about 40K these days.
