Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

So much bad news as our Barnes & Nobles will inevitably close soon

I knew we were doomed when all of the managers were demoted to keyholders. 2 of the store managers in our area walked out. It's really crazy what is going on.

They threw $2 at full-timers and made them keyholders and giving them the work and responsibility of managers. None of them want to do it and hate working at our store.

I've lost count how many people have quit in the last month alone. No staff and a lot more stress. People aren't buying and I don't know how we're making payroll. I'll be amazed if we survive the holiday season. My friend said they're quitting right before Thanksgiving.

How is your store doing?

I've seen larger stores with extreme minimal staff. One cashier, one cafe person, one general person. The general person is doing customer service, shelving books/receiving, and answering phones all at once. Down with BN.

Our store is not making money. Lots of booksellers have left for better opportunities. We’re running bare bones. If one person calls out, it becomes panic time. More co workers talking about leaving. As the leave we hire the first person who comes along. Barely any training, just throw them out there, they get fed up, they leave. It’s a revolving door , here.
