Lots of press these days on the first of many sites for ground breaking billion dollar spin fantasy fans that scream Intel is back.
The reality these will simply be holes in the ground for layoff burials, LOL.
Who is Pat kidding, TMG and LTD has been an epic failure at 10nm and 7nm. Just talk more and spend more on factories will simply accelerate the race to the grave!
Just because you rename your nodes doesn’t make it happen! Without a complete overhaul of people, culture and methodology Intel won’t be competitive with Samsung nor TSMC. For the last 10 years Intel had scale, money, brand and talent and went from couple year lead to couple years behind, what has changed besides empty talk. Nothing but PowerPoint propaganda.
You can ground break all the factories and build the big, sorry, Honking Fabs, but like what happened with 10nm and 7nm. Renaming them Intel4 and 20A doesn’t change the fact you actually have to bring technology on time and have an ecosystem to enable a rich and huge set of products for it and Foundry!
Let’s be honest Intel current leadership and culture to be competitive in leading edge foundry is simply fantasy. They haven’t even put in place leadership or actions that enables even starting on the path to be equal and competitive. Let’s not forget their competitors are huge and not stupid and pushing harder to stay ahead on technology and even more unapproachable on customer service and ecosystem.
Let’s just say they fail at Foundry, it is even more grim with not enough scale to compete as an IDM, the billions spent in Az and holes planned for huge factories in US and Europe will become the graves for future Intel hires. They are late, don’t have scale, and pedicure like on 10 and 7 aren’t competitive with what others can bring to market at Foundry 5 and 3, darn even Intel is so uncomfortable that they have to commit to external for their next round of products or lose the whole market to AMD and others!
Have no fear Pat and all the senior executives have hundred million $$$ level parachutes to bail out, but you suckers will be laid off!
Keep drinking the koolaid till you get laid off!
