Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

The bigger problem is which people are laid off

Do you also think that the bigger problem here than layoffs is that totally wrong people are being laid off?

Those who are the best employees, who are the most talented and have the most knowledge, or simply those who should be kept here at all cost are usually the ones who get cut. On the other hand, below-average employees are generally safe.

@wcn+1cy400bS you've nailed it in one. Never mind that it costs big $$$ ensuring that that cheap labor gets the job done efficiently and to the required standard.

They don't care about right people or wrong people because the only thing that matters is cheap labor.

They just have a number to cut per department. Then, the sh---y manager has to decide who to cut to meet that number. If they like a particular a-s kisser, that person will be safe. It has nothing to do with performance.

I believe it’s a numbers game. Just an employee number and a salary. They don’t have a clue if the people they cut are good or lazy employees. They most likely have a number of employees they want to axe and a total of $. I doubt these people would actually put much thought into it. Let’s face it.. would they put their time and energy into this when it’s obvious they really don’t care about quality?

That is always an issue. Another issue is this concept of healthy attrition or rather the attrition we are seeing is normal.

That’s what I keep hearing. This goes right into your point. The brain drain. Smart people are leaving. I want to keep my best and brightest. However they are too smart to stay.
