Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

WARNING

If you have the sense to peruse through this site prior to applying at Allstate let this be your warning. Low pay, long hours, and ZERO work/life balance. I can't tell you how miserable our frontline claims folks are and rightly so. They have somehow created an environment where they want the same amount of claims closed as in the past, but doubled the handling time. I ask you to name one company that has regressed more in the past 5 years. Somehow we have to perform double the processes and spend double the time handling a claim as we did in 2016. It's insane. Any recommendations for improvement typically get viewed as complaining. There is often no explanation for why we are adding tasks, time, difficulty to daily work. The usual response is, 'I agree it doesn't make sense, but this is what they want us to do.' It's literally mind numbing how out of touch the Senior level decision makers are. I do get it, they have never done this work! They have never dealt with customers! Shameful.

LOOK ELSEWHERE!!!

IT dept pays great! Sounds like claims is the area to avoid.

RUN, don't walk away from Allstate. Worst Insurance company ever to work for, unless your willing to hold the same job title/position with the same pay for your entire career

Agreed on all counts!!! I started here about 11 months ago on cat property and can tell you everybody is miserable. People that have been here awhile are all seemingly looking/applying for other carriers…. The pay is garbage for what they want you to do. And I totally agree w the bs redundant processes.

"It's literally mind numbing how out of touch the Senior level decision makers are."

This is the most important and truest line from the OP. Most managers/leaders have no idea how their direct reports are actually doing their work and/or they've not done that work themselves.

In my 10 years plus with Allstate, it's consistently "do more with less". Most process changes are lateral moves at best, rarely do they ever make things more efficient and too often make things more difficult/cumbersome. And yes, the justification for all these changes is far too often some variation of, "I know this doesn't make sense/isn't any easier, but this is what we're being asked to do."

Yes indeed ! Facts . In the last 1 1/2 years I’ve worked 7am to upwards of 7-8pm almost daily to keep up with the claims. We’re told they’re trying to hire everyone back or restaff those that were laid off or quit due to the stress but Allstate is finding out no one wants to come back or work for peanuts . I’m looking to get into another industry ASAP!

100% factual. I'm currently looking for a new job because of it. Compared to two years ago, my workload has nearly doubled while my pay has decreased.

And I'm supposed to be happy with that???

How I wish I would have seen this site prior to my time with Allstate. Glassdoor looked rosy, but attest to the brutal honesty of this site. Unfortunately, the company lacks any sort of moral compass or ethical standard.

Software and tech are not to bad "yet". Most work will be sent elsewhere, so keep an eye on the other departments. The philosophy and strategy will be coming to an AOR near you.. Best of luck. Don't get too comfortable.. You can already see senior leaders over there jumping ship..

Grunt jobs are really the ones to look out for. If you want to work in software or tech at aLlStATe, it's not too bad
