Thread regarding Ascension Health layoffs

How would you describe the atmosphere at Ascension?

Nothing motivates me anymore to stay here. Not even paycheck. The atmosphere has become so toxic it's depressing. After a few years here, I would even consider working somewhere for less pay if only the atmosphere was different.

@3vcz+1cwlnCxA I've had to explain to quite a few practice managers that their friendly local FS team doesn't have the power they think they do. They think we can change the whole ordering system and we have the power to expedite issues that only national teams do. I've had to set quite a few straight on that. One actually asked me to complain to the powers at be that the ordering system is terrible - she actually thought we have the power to influence change. I frankly told her that they know and they don't care. Because we have complained for it already. Outside our IT sphere, a lot of healthcare staff doesn't know what's going on or how it all works. They place the blame of failures and delays on the faces they see.

It's been what, two weeks now and they still don't know FS is being sold off like chattel and there's going to be a major disruption of service because a lot of us will hopefully have other jobs by then. When I tell them it's HCL (the same as the help desk) the look that falls over their faces is one of frustration and disappointment.

How is IT ruining their day? Whoever said that is quite the drama queen.

I don’t work for AT anymore. I hate it for those who still do.

@1oac+1cwlnCxA the choice of Peleton or the lake house to relax. Maybe choice of the 2nd or 33rd lake house now since so much money will be saved by outsourcing the entire IT staff? Sucks to be the 99%!

Yes, you have to love it when the VP of RAD lectures us about how it is all about the physicians and that IT shouldn't be ruining their day and we're all sitting thinking...you are the one responsible for the issues and the physician dissatisfaction. You and the CIO because you two created this mess with the ongoing transition in preparation for the grand finale: all of IT outsourced. One can only hope (well pray since it's the BigA) that in the end they are all held accountable. IT was not a mess until they began their grand plan.

Toxic. My experience was in both Ascension Technologies and in the local hospital environments and I would summarize the problems as follows:

  1. Ascension Technologies: AN IT AND SYSTEM FAILURE
  2. Ascension Hospitals: Local executives have no power to improve the dismal IT issues because the local executives have no power. Everything dictated from above by the so-called Ascension “system”. Response from an Ascension Technologies DIRECTOR to me when I advised him the CEO of the hospital had requested a specific IT-related improvement: “I DON’T CARE.”
  3. EGOS. EGOS. EGOS. The entire medical industrial complex has become a sewer of egos and over-sized salaries for a few while all individuals involved in support roles are treated disrespectfully… as if they were children. My Ascension position profile described my role as “entry-level” in spite of decades of experience.

@1jfx+1cwlnCxA - So what exactly did they say about their choices?

I must say, that they DID mention their choices in today's AT all-hands meeting. Spent quite of bit of time on it too. TRUST? Of course not. These actions of their's only serve to be an underlining moment of what to expect in any corporate environment. Scripture brought into play as well. Ascension's decisions not only affect anyone watching this thread but also their families as well.

I’ve heard of toxic environments but I’ve never experienced that where I’m at.
