Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Very concerned about GOM offshore safety following the mandate.

Myocarditis and pericarditis are real concerns following the 2nd booster and I think we are put the safety of both offshore workers and environment at risk by accepting at face value the known risks from a brief vaccine research program.

What happens after a 3rd booster? Are we going to be conducting full fitness of duty assessments for all workers mandated to receive the jab? Platform work is physically demanding in a dangerous environment, cardio-vascular health is a higher priority and risk than that of an office worker.

@embn

Wow, you’ve put together a pastiche of blanket statements, cherry-picking, fibs, innuendo, fabrications and outright 1ies.

The 1st and 2nd shots did not fail. 3rd shot may help for some people who are most at risk from severe COVID.

Almost all childhood vaccines require multiple doses to be fully effective. Why should COVID vax be different?

Israel is not the basket case you refer to. To date, Israel has had about 120,000 COVID cases per million population (almost exactly same as USA). Israel has had about 7,200 deaths for a death rate of 0.64%. USA has had COVID death rate of 1.62%, with about 666,000 deaths. Israel vax rate is much higher than that in USA. Hmm?

Everything about COVID vaccines has NOT been a lie.

—Vaccines reduce COVID infection rates but not by 100%. No vax has ever been 100%.

—COVID vax lead to huge reductions in hospitalizations and deaths.

—Breakthrough infections in fully vaccinated (FV) people do occur but are rare. And hospitalizations/deaths for FV are rarer yet. As of August 21 in Arkansas, 0.06% of hospitalizations were for FV; 99+% of hospitalizations were for unvaccinated people. I could parade very similar statistics for each state.

—Yes, there are complications (as with all vaccines) but the risk/reward ratio is hugely in favor of getting vaccinated. There are examples of getting myocarditis/ pericarditis from getting vaccinated. The same goes for blood clotting issues. Funny thing is that COVID infections can be the cause of those same conditions with a much higher frequency, to the tune of at least a 1,000 x’s more likely (probably much higher). Risk of dying from COVID infection is about 2,000 x’s more likely than from a vaccination.

Yes, obesity in USA is a huge (pun intended) COVID comorbidity issue, but you ignore the issue of old age. My mother is not even overweight but she is over 90, so at much higher risk from COVID. I don’t want to be the one who gives her COVID during a visit thus vaccination for her AND for me is well worth it.

Your hypothesis that people in 3rd world countries (less obese?) fare better than the USA does not hold water. So far, Death rate is 9.2% in Peru, 7.7% in Mexico, 6.3% in Ecuador and 3.7% in Bolivia.

I agree that therapeutic dr-gs are just as necessary as vaccinations but they will not and should not replace vaccinations. We need all possible weapons available to fight the war against COVID.

And there is NOT a concerted effort against studying therapeutics for COVID.

Your statement about the de-worming dr-g in Latin America might work out to be true but it’s not likely that ivrmct1n will prove to be effective at prevention, symptom relief, reduction of hospitalization and reduction in deaths. The early reports of high effectiveness against death came from studies that are somewhere between ill-conceived and fraudulent, as well as withdrawn from publication.

Proper medical studies of COVID therapeutic dr-gs require good design and some time.

For example, the original hydrxychlr*quine hawkers have been proven wrong by multiple studies. It does not prevent infection, it does not reduce symptoms and it does not reduce hospitalization/ death.

Perhaps best study of therapeutic dexamethasone was done in UK. Initially, the data/ results were all over the map regarding its efficacy. Detailed analysis showed it did not prevent infection or relieve symptoms. However, it proved to be able to reduce deaths reasonably well only for intubated patients. We need more work like that in the UK.

My problem - here in Texas - with vaccine-hesitant / anti-vaxxers is that many also refuse to wear masks, socially distance, etc…

If you want to look at a therapeutic dr-g (given your original message), I suggest you try Jim Humble’s MMS (M1racle M1nerl Sluti*n. It’s a winner 😆

You appear to be of the "I'm sure that even though the 1st & 2nd jabs failed the 3rd (or 4th) will work" mindset.

It's always been pointless to "vaccinate" against Coronaviruses. You're better off letting them run their course.

The latest information coming out of Israel, one of the most vaxxed (1,2, & 3 doses) countries in the world is not good.

https://swprs.org/israel-highest-infection-rate-in-the-world/

Everything we were told about the Covid vaccines has been proven false in the real world.

  • They don't prevent infection.
  • They don't prevent the spread.
  • Complications are real.
  • The bullying of pro-vax victims sharing their complications is real.
  • Therapeutics do work, and work well.
  • There has been a concerted effort to prevent the research and use of generic treatments.

The real elephant in the room (honestly, no pun intended) is epic obesity. The majority of co-morbidities that doom a Covid patient are entirely preventable. Diabetes, heart disease, COPD, etc for the most part all weigh heavily, well, on a person's weight.

When the final chapter is written we'll probably see that sedentary lifestyles, fast-food diets, and the accompanying obesity all put modern 1st world people at greater risk than those in the 3rd world.

We also may also see that a generic dr-g used to prevent river-blindness that is widely prescribed in 3rd world countries actually contributed to sharp declines in death and slowed the outbreak. Funny how it works. It's the kind of factoids that find their way into a Malcom Gladwell-type book.

Good treatment, therapeutics, and care, not vaccines is what has prevented mass Ebola outbreaks, and it is worth arguing that the same approach should be applied to Covid-19.

That's rational, compared to the never-ending booster after booster of Covid vaccines. At what point will we call it a failure? 4th booster or 24th booster? We're already being conditioned to accept it as a seasonal thing "that you just get" during "Covid season". Good grief. It's strayed so far from the initial promise that people have already forgotten what that promise even was. Stay sharp people, eat healthy, exercise, question authority, and don't let the people in power memory-ho-e their self-contradictions.

Ok, armchair researcher. Did you compile a literature review and write abstracts on each article? Or better yet, did you collect a random sample of sources and perform independent probability statistics on the reported results?

Lots of pathos, absolutely zero logos and zero ethos in your message.

We can’t trust:
Government,
Employer,
Big Pharma,
WHO,
FDA,
CDC, and don’t rely solely on your doctor either. Wow!

Where are your credible sources?
QAnon?
Conspiracy theories?
Trump? (Oops he and family got vaxxed and recommended it, even after they had COVID)?
Cr*p your buddies at the bar told you was absolutely true?
Your uninformed opinion?
America’s Frontline Doctors?

I’m not a believer in mandates, but choosing to NOT get vaccinated shows a complete failure of understanding risk/reward ratios.

Myocarditis/Pericarditis can be a result of any immune response to infection or vaccination. Chance of getting either is about 1000 times for COVID infection compared to vaccination. And that doesn’t count chances of dying from or getting long COVID.

The ADE argument is also baseless as vaccinated people would get much sicker than the unvaccinated. ADE is first thing that vax testing looks for because it shows up immediately. And there is no data showing ADE with COVID vaccines.

Note that ADE tends to occur more often in children under 12 due to less developed immune systems. So CDC and Big Pharma are being very careful in testing vax for that age group, so no jab for them yet. We’ll see what the data tell us.

If you choose no vax, your employer can put some limits on your workplace assignments (e.g., WFH, masking at work, testing…).

Note that Delta Airlines, who did not mandate vax, is charging unvaccinated employees $200/month more for healthcare coverage. A good start.

Remember, your “Rights”/“Freedoms” are NOT FREE. Never have been; never will be.

Research information from credible sources and educate yourselves on both the virus and the vaccines. At the end of the day it is up to You, not your employer, not your government, neither entrust the WHO, the CDC, the FDA, big Pharma to advise you, nor solely rely on your Dr. to advise your medical decisions. It is your responsibility to find out what the truth really is and made the decision for yourself. The herd mentality is that of the meek, weak and unwise. In this case, the meek shall inherit nothing but regret.

Your statement should read: "Good luck finding a doctor who will have enough courage to recognize a patients health risks in the face of censure from the American Medical Association."

People in the healthcare industry are increasingly afraid to speak up or even suggest that vaccines are not all things to all people.

"Don't make waves" has apparently replaced the Hippocratic oath.

@2bix

Your mumbo-jumbo, wishy-washy words remind me of most Chevron manager’s behaviors.

And you are woefully ignorant of ADE. ADE - when it happens -occurs early in vaccine testing. ADE results in vaccinated people getting more serious disease than unvaccinated people.

Neither of those things have occurred. And they would have occurred by now.

Also ADE often occurs in children (12 y.o. or less) whose immune systems may not be fully mature. Note that all the COVID vaccines are still being tested for that age group. Oh my God, the rampant tyranny of the CDC.

I don’t have a problem with those hesitant to get the vaccine, but what I object to is the trifecta that they often combine: 1) anti-vax, 2) anti-mask and 3) no social distancing. Not only do they insist on no vaccines, they reserve the right to go out and infect others! Wow, what “principles.” NOT!

In my Houston area neighborhood, we have a rabid Trump supporter who has multiple signs in his yard including anti-vax and anti-mask sentiments. He was sure that his immune system was up to handling COVID, despite being an obese, cigarette-smoking, two six pack a day 50+ year old. He’s now in hospital on ventilator. I pray for him to get well, so I can tell him what a schmuck he is.

You can call it conspiracy theory all you want, but you cannot change the fact that all is not known about the virus or the vax, and that every day reveals further insight into both.

You can mock those who are hesitant, or have outright chosen not to get the vax, but that does not make you intellectually or morality superior to them. Hubris and ego are two things that don't particularly coexist with reality well when the truth is eventually known. I hope for your sake that this is just your online bravado self and not a representative of who you are in the world and hopefully on the job.

I pray that nothing happens on either side, and for you I hope that you do not find yourself having to train and handover your work to an unvaxxed replacement before ADE consumes you and you go on full disability. I guess I need to take my own advice, but that is my parting shot.

Many of the anti-vaxxers are too far gone to be convinced to get the jab. They are very far down the rabbit ho-e of conspiracy and false facts and no matter what factual research from true experts in the field will get them to listen. God himself could come down and explain they are good and it won't convince them. Its why the pandemic is going to continue and ruin people's lives since these people won't wise up and get the jab.

How large your truck is will make you feel like a bigger man. Listen to a few middle school educated experts shooting video from a flip phone on how bad the vaccine and you'll be alright.

If you fear mRNA technology, just get a Johnson & Johnson vaccine. In truth, there is very little to be worried about with mRNA technology (your body makes antibodies for all kinds of varying natural virus everyday) ... that is, unless you read the "alternative-information" posts. All the vaccines for COVID are remarkable effective and have few proven sides effects that last more than a day or two.

OP
Myocarditis and/or pericarditis are often result of immune system response, by infection OR vaccination.

Recent JAMA study (Aug 4, 2021) of slightly over 2 MM vaccinated people (53% Pfizer, 44% Moderna, 3% J&J) ended up with 20 cases of myocarditis and 37 cases of pericarditis.

19 of 57 people went to hospital, not a single person died! There were several cases of cardiac symptoms after 1st shot, with no new symptoms from 2nd shot.

If you combine myo- and peri-carditis cases from vaccinations, that amounts to 0.003% of the over 2 MM.

JAMA Cardiology study (May 27, 2021) looked at 1597 competitive athletes who got myocarditis from COVID viral infection, no vaccination. 5 athletes (0.31%) got myocarditis as measured by normally measured cardiac symptoms; 37 (2.3%) got myocarditis as observed on MRI scans. No hospitalizations, no deaths.

Your argument is specious at best. Those infected with COVID are many times more likely to get cardiac symptoms than those vaccinated.

BTW, risk assessment is a key skill for offshore work, perhaps 🤔 such a thing should go in
your LAP.
