Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

It is important to know when to leave

The biggest problem seems to be that most people don’t know when is the right time to get out of here? For someone who wants to develop and continue to grow her/ his career, I think HW is a good stepping stone. However, it is important to know when to leave. I know people who left here too late and then failed to find something better. Some couldn’t stand the atmosphere so they left long before they acquired new skills here.

Use them for training and then dump them.

OP: Look at open job postings in your field at other companies to get an idea of what they are looking for in skill sets for replacement hires. They will show basic qualifications (required skills/experience) & preferred qualifications (desired skills/experience) along with desired years of experience for the position.

I'm a recently retired (2018) Aero engineering manager. I remember an applicant apply for a position with a résumé that included a spreadsheet with each qualification listed on my job posting and their experience with each item. I was impressed with that and the applicant was eventually hired.

You will know you can move on when you feel comfortable enough with your experience to meet the job posting requirements at other companies for your desired job.

When they start playing games. Plan an exit strategy. Either give two weeks or just leave.

Its probably easier when one does not have monetary commitments to want to leave. For a larger group of workers here, the choice of looking for external oppurtunities aren't easy to come by therefore, stuck with this company until retirement. It doesn't mean that we ain't looking, though. Only that there ain't jobs out there that can bring the same amount of renumerations as how Honeywell is treating us.

This is true.
Especially now that honeywell has ended defined benefit pensions. Do 1 project start to finish and then move. Does not matter if you stay in honeywell or go to a new company. Show progression every two years during the first 20 yrs of work. The important part is new skills and accomplishments for your resume.
It is easy to get stuck. It is easy to go backward. If you get a pip...move immediately as you are now stuck for several years at least.
