Do they actually enjoy watching employees suffer?

Ford management does not care about your career, health, etc. They will use you and throw you away without thinking twice. Some managers will actually enjoy watching you suffer. They will pay you lip service about future moves, etc. Whatever it takes to placate you. Once you feel you want to move on, quietly lay the ground work for your departure. Update your resume, interview, etc.

True! I agree with every word of this post @1pih+1cnssF1w. I thought I was wrong and exaggerating, but no, it is true that some managers enjoy watching people suffer. At least mine does. Maybe that's how he compensates for his incompetence...

Often times one feels that Ford is exploring the Too D-mb To Fail Business Model when spending time with our leaders. Unfortunately many leaders have both mean and selfish streaks. Bad Combo.

I feel no pity for those management types. I have had some really good ones in my time at Ford. One of them was a minority female. Too bad those same bullies do not play contact sport . One of the worst bosses would lie and throw his own people under the bus to get a head. He was taken to HR and would later be promoted again. An like a creature of habit he went back to throwing his people under the bus again.
In any large company you will have these types of people. Big difference today is the benefits are not as good as they use to be. And people instead will quit. No pension to hold them here.

You occasionally see an LL6 that cares about their direct reports and relates to them as human beings with lives, goals and feelings but you rarely see these people get promoted beyond that level. People who are promoted tend to be the type who claw and scratch their way to the top leaving casualties along the way. This type sees others as obstacles to be removed and the suffering they cause feels like power to them. Another type that is promoted is so focused on themselves that they don’t give thought to other people. They don’t necessarily see others as obstacles, they simply don’t give them any thought at all. With people like that at the top there’s a lot of suffering at the bottom due to intention or indifference.

So many of them do and that's due to the personality type they promote. Not much has changed even with the diversity and age discrimination focus. In fact most of the new hires and promotions are more terrible people then they currently have. Did not think it possible to do. But Ford go found a way.
