Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Being too fast gets you kicked out of the company?

Come on, Q is one of the most relax and over-staffed tech company. They hire 3 guys for a job that is usually being done by 1 guy in many other companies. And then build up a huge management lines to fit in so many management positions. when I worked there I saw many are kicked out just because their tempo is too fast, and don't follow up with the group. Their mid level managers just want to build up a tree under them to make their positions sound. Trust me Q is one of the most easy pace company to work with. You might be lacking skills over time. - post ID @agny+1ceygyJO.

Is this a joke? Does that mean some people here are pretending they can’t work better and faster so as not to be kicked out?

Kind of true depending on where you get placed. Key rule would be to never outshine anyone above you. If you work hard and outshine your boss you will be let go! If you outshine people that have been at Q longer than you - you will be let go! Just fail up - which means as long as you are wrong with everyone above you all will get promoted together! Qualcomm is a fail up commodity company now!

I think it's totally nonsense, the truth is, now they only hire one guy and do the jobs which need 3 guys to be done. Or how can Q costdown? When a company hired many oversea people that means it's costing-down.

I thought that was a joke until I learned.
Would you let 3 slow guys go and shrink the budget/size of you team? or would you let one best go and keep asking for more staff to make your little pyramid more stable in such a over staffed environment where most of teams can be consolidated?
