Time is hard in SD but life is easy in QCA, nothing can complain about here

Q is not the Qualcomm you thought as before, it's a sinking ship and full of politics, if you are not the majorities, or the same rc with your manager, PIP will come to you very soon if you don't work like a dog and 80 hours a week

@dazo Not necessary, PIP can be for political reasons as well. If someone is not liked by their manager or lead can be PIP'ed as well for reasons not related to their work performance. That is the problem with commodity engineering positions, engineers become easily replaceable.

if you get PIPed then you are fu----g loser. It is hard to get fired at QCOM. if you've been PIPed then you are a fuckup.

I had an interview couple of years ago with a company in the Bay area and I was located at Qcom's SD office. The first thing the hiring manager said to me in the interview was "We don't work like Qualcomm here, I know over there they hire 10 engineers to do the same thing one engineer can do".
There is no secrets in the industry, everybody knows what the culture is like at all these tech companies including many start ups as well. Qualcomm tends to over hire so that they can let go some escape goats when the sh!t hits the fan. That way managers keep their jobs during all waves of layoffs. It is very unethical and dishonest culture.

Come on, Q is one of the most relax and over-staffed tech company. They hire 3 guys for a work that is usually being done by 1 guy in many other companies. And then build up a huge management lines to fit in so many management positions. when I worked there I saw many are kicked out just because their tempo is too fast, and don't follow up with the group. Their mid level managers just want to build up a tree under them to make their positions sound. Trust me Q is one of the most easy pace company to work with. You might be lacking skills over time.

It's not just QC, it's everywhere else too. If you quit and work elsewhere, you will still be working the 60 hour week if not more. That's the common theme on this site.

No, everyone has to work 60-80 hours per week. Else you will have no career growth, put in PIP and get fired any day. Work all the time, then you will be retained here.
Qualcomm is not a company for creative and intelligent people. Just slog and you will sail through. Most people are brain dead, or are not genuine engineers. Just want to pay the bills, ZERO interest in engineering crazy things.
