Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

Newbies at Windstream

I wonder what attracted them to come to Windstream? The one I know left so quickly that I believe he broke the record in how short someone stayed in the company. Only people without a skill set can come here, those who have not done research and those who intend to stay here super short, and even so there are fewer and fewer of them.

Quite honestly I think hiring young and inexperienced in certain fields is a good thing. I've seen some of this with groups that work with mine. They have a fresh take, want to learn, have less to bi--h about. The only downfall is that they will leave when they get the experience and realize how little Windstream pays compared to other companies for the same task.

I’m not sure about your newbies but our newbies all are using dr-gs to get through the day. I would say at least half the department is smoking or snorting something and I hear the neighboring part of the company is the same way. We really need a policy in place to get this issue under control. Anybody else out there seeing this problem ?

@Bring back CTC

There was another CTC in the mix (Computer Telephone Corp) they were another bankrupt CLEC in Boston from the early 2000s. They merged to become One communications which merged to become EarthLink a few years later. After a few more years of failed executives they of course merged with WIN.

15 years of failed executives, we play the same game every few years.

"Yeah, I remember our Director of NetOps explaining the rural/ILEC situation. He stated they are lazy and have very little work, no new turnups as their backwards town is already on WIN. "

I'm a residential and enterprise customer in Concord, NC. The ILEC here used to be Concord Telephone Co. which Windstream bought (for $527 million). CTC was well-run. Concord is now a suburb of Charlotte although other parts of the CTC territory are still rural.

Locally, Windstream is pretty messed up but the remaining employees seem to give it their best shot. We're also lucky that CTC built out a FTTH system just before selling out. After 10+ years, Windstream _finally_ started offering FTTH. It's great. It also helps that fiber cable is reliable and mostly id--t-proof once you get everything in place so I'm confident my home service will stay up. It's mostly on sturdy, well-maintained City-owned poles back to the CO.

Our enterprise service is poor-to-fair.

We've hired some CTC refugees - they're outstanding workers. My best two vendors are ex-CTC.

I gather there was another Windstream acquisition also called CTC; I'm referring to the ILEC here.

They missed their chance with bankruptcy. They could have eliminated the union under bankruptcy, so clearly that's not part of their plan.

Yeah, I remember our Director of NetOps explaining the rural/ILEC situation. He stated they are lazy and have very little work, no new turnups as their backwards town is already on WIN. Most work goes out to contractors as well. He then stated they are the highest paid people in their “little backwards town” and WIN is doing everything they can to get out from under their union. These are his words, not mine. These people still reported to him at the time, I simply wondered what he said about us when we werent around…….I find management does most of the bad mouthing and is the root of Windstreams problems.

Clearly you have no idea what it's like to live in rural America.

Management likes to exploit the rural folks who essentially become the prison population for Windstream jailhouse. These inmates drag the rest of us down with them due to their circumstances and fears of only being able to work at Windstream. Grow a pair and quick taking the abuse!!

Some of us live in rural area and Windstream is the only opportunity for a job. For those is a larger market like LR there is more opportunity. I'll agree our leadership is poor but there's nothing I can do about it.

Maybe trying to get a good job that has decent benefits so they can improve their life? You ever think your cr---y attitude made them think other wise?

People like you burn me up, on here posting cr-p while still being employed, while other people get laid off and struggle to find better jobs.

Its like a dog returning to its vomit here, why do I bother.
