So much distrust

I came here to see how everyone feels about HR and from what I gather there is an overall distrust. The question I have is who do we go to if there is an issue that needs to be resolved to our satisfaction if not HR? I understand that for many going to HR is a huge mistake but I was wondering if anyone who has gone to HR with their issues actually had them solved? Just looking to see what my options are.

HR exists purely for the benefit of the company, it is not there to protect or advocate for employees. Try ombuds instead.

I challenge anyone to document a time HR actually helped them. Their main role is to protect the company from lawsuits, to sweep complainers under the rug and out the door (I've seen it happen). Have you talked to your BU rep anytime recently? They're basically clueless on any work matters (go ahead - ask them how merit raises are calculated, or how you get promoted). Ombudsman? Just another layer of company protection. The entire bloated HR function is just a drag on the company...

HR is there to protect the company from Human Resources/Rejects like you.

Oh HR. They put the "Human" in "Human Energy"......thats what you are to them just a human, and just a number. They are there to protect the company and the legal liability of lawsuits, harassment cases....

In one of the most recent townhalls, HR wasn't even clear on how they do benchmarking efforts for salary/renumeration against "peers." Someone asked who were the peers and they didnt know. Yeah, that just adds to the distrust and the negative perception of this group.

What’s the problem?

Depending on the issue, yes HR can help.

HR is for life events and handling se-ual harassment issues. Not sure if they're even capable of dealing with those.

Haha. HR is not for you it’s for the company. They will slit your throat. The only thing HR could help on is a harassment suite but it better be good with evidence or you will be out on the next go around.

You could check with ombuds and talk to them. They will guide you some but even they cover stuff up for the company protection.

Why don’t you help the responses by trying to explain your problem without outing yourself.
