Severance

Can someone please explain the policy on the severance? If you don’t take what position they offered you, then you forfeit your payout?

You get a period of time at your current rate of pay and benefits to find a position. 90 day seems to be what i’ve seen in most cases. You have an option in some cases to take an immediate payout with a maintained benefit period.

There are some cases where you are offered a new role not of your choice or location but generally will be within the territory at the same level or a severance separation package if you don’t accept.

The options and time frames can be fair but also not give folks much of a choice. I’ve had the flexibility with some changes i was offered in the past but i know how hard these decisions my coworkers with family's rooted in certain communities.

A few years back a manger i worked with had to live in a community with her son due to a shared custody order that prevented her ability to relocate when offered that or severance. Her inability to travel an additional 45 minuets for work and no option for her to step down in her current club put her in terrible financial crisis with her children.

It’s hard to know that these packages can work well for some and the other options can be devastating for others.

If your position is eliminated you will, receive severence. My position was eliminated and they offered me something for less pay and I said no and left. Left collected unemployment with no regrets

Not sure. I was told you would have to interview to find out what the pay would be & the goals.

I believe you have to apply for the job in the system, when you enter view and are offered the position and you decline the offer then you forfeit severance. If they go with someone else you are still available for severance.

I do believe the person was asking ...if they offer you an equal (or unequal) position and you don't accept it, will you forfeit your severance. No made up position is necessary.

If you take the severance, you take it and leave. If you take position you get no severance because you still work for the company. They offered an available position to you, are they to make up one for you?
