No forced ranking

Forced ranking is a myth and doesn’t exist at Wells Fargo.

One word --- Calibration. That is where people are stacked against each other and yeah, some will be "meets", and there will be "does not consistently meet".

What a f-c-k-i-n-g Troll post . Yeah buddy it's real and it's here -- "guided distribution" is the fancy schmancy name for forced ranking.

Attempting to apply a distribution to data that isn't actually normalized is wrong. The performance of employees who've been hired because they're considered the best candidates isn't a normal distribution. The height of ponderosa pines is.

Also, what happens when you start letting go of the relatively low performers? You're left at first with average performers and good performers. Then you end up with just good performers, but you have to rate some of them them as poor because of misapplication of a distribution.

Yes, it very much is. You can stretch it, but it's strongly discouraged and you'd better have a mountain of evidence that the rating is deserved. Funny thing is, if everyone is "meets" they suddenly don't care about the curve. It's only when you go out of bounds on the higher end that you're grilled and asked to 'reconsider'.

The bell curve is a result of being compared to your peers. It’s not about if you do your job well. Nothing is forced some people just don’t like to be told they are doing their job just as well as most others on the team. Therefore they are not exceptional, just average. Still solid contributors though. This might be counterintuitive in today’s society but that is the only way to rate business outcomes. Otherwise everyone gets a cr---y raise. Just my opinion though.

“Guided Distribution” is real and sucks.

The OP is obviously not a manager (or maybe not a WF employee), and has never been pushed to find more 2’s and fewer 4’s. It happens each review period.

It does exist. Even at the last review period, I was forced to adjust my rankings because we didn't meet the right percentage of exceeds, meets, and inconsistently exceeds. It's happened to me every single year for at least the past 5 years.

There are mods who delete individual replies. Interesting.

Ask your manager about the bell curve they are required to "create" when doing mid and annual reviews. They are only "allowed" a certain about above or below "meets" to keep the nice, pretty bell curve. Been that way for years.

Forced ranking is happening at WF. As a manager, I was required to rank my staff lower in order to meet the number goal. If you think it’s not happening, you’re mistaken.

Fake accounts didn't exist either, bahahahbaahhahahaha! Until the City of L.A. and others found them and it broke the news. Then Carrie and Claudia were allowed to "retire."

Bahahahahaha, hahahaha!

Weird how my mid-year with my manager alluded to the fact that I was in a strong position to be the one selected to be above average this year.
