s there anyone who can help me understand, since it seems to me that there is no logic when they need to cut someone? There should be more talk here about the layoffs which were terrible at FP. A person who was a great employee got laid off while a person who wasn't nearly as good stayed. Is that normal? What is Mattel trying to prove - that it doesn't matter how hard we work?

"Honestly, $200k seems pretty low for a VP living in SoCal. Do you realize how expensive it is to live out here?" - that's their base salary, they also get 50% bonuses. You too can make as much as an attorney - just get a B.S. degree from anywhere, and suck up to management, be a YES person all the way, brains not required
Your work doesn’t matter. What matters is how much you “align” with Executive Leadership. If you want to survive you need to become a yes man/woman/person. No one rises to the top at Mattel by challenging the status quo or having a unique point of view. Those folks are shown the door and then publicly thanked for their service.
If you can swallow and not use too much hand or teeth, you can stay. Even reach arounds are not good enough for snobby Management anymore.

Just know that there are OVER 200 VP's who make OVER $200k EACH.
If your boss plays for the same team then you will be judged by your overall aesthetic. are you fabu or not? don’t think quality of work counts, it’s whether they think you’re fierce or should sashay away.
a successful manager at mattel “manages up” meaning they look like they’re on top of their game, take sole credit for getting results from their team and usually know who to shmooze to make it to senior management and ultimately director. good managers are great at pretending to know what’s going on and always have their portions of the spreadsheet highlighted. that’s the extent of it.
I had a manager who didn't do anything and didn't know anything but kept her job because she sucked up to the right people in HR and other Management. And she sucked up to her staff, too, so that no one would ever blow her cover that she was incompetent. So sad because our team had some high performers with the potential to innovate, but she was afraid of that word. Innovative ideas were shot down.
"As a former manager, it's a way to get rid of under performers, over paid employees, and trouble makers." former being the key. You must have been a fat under-performer who drove a cr-p car and aged out of the position.
Doesn't matter how much you get paid, just how good you are at swinging from upper managements junk.
As a former manager, it's a way to get rid of under performers, over paid employees, and trouble makers.
Such a mean culture. Only a certain type survive long -term.
the car you drive, the way you dress, who you know, who you.... all politics. If you're in the Type A mean kids club they find it amusing and want to keep you around. If you're overweight, they discriminate. Over 40? out the door.
The Truth hurts folks. just deal with it and move on or wipe off your chin and get to work another day.
It's all about the $$$$$$$$$$$.
Cha-ching!
Find out how much these people who are being laid off were paid. Your answer may be there.
