Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Why are EM employees everywhere more valued than at EM?

EM employees are valued in a lot of places. I am going to Google for my next role. Take advantage of that EM brand name now before the oil and gas industry get decimated by the latest IPCC report. The report will hammer the final nail into the coffin of the oil and gas industry (...)

I hope others have similar experiences as the author of this post - @5Hvxf+16zEvLP3 . However, I would not attribute the success of employees in other companies to EM. There is no company that will value someone just because he or she came from here, but because they are quality employees which EM did not value enough.

Now, it is just propaganda. The brightest and greatest is just a slogan from the past. We are EM slogan was the last nail on the coffin.

Excuse me, as far as IT is concerned ... EMIT does not fair well outside, specially if you've stayed so long. EMIT will ruin your IT career.

This is extremely accurate but like others mention, will eventually fade.

Some people are finding more pay, others the same or even a loss. Without sounding like an ageist, younger folks are likely to find an increase, as most are likely underpaid from the past 3 years of bleh.

Older folks who (and good for them) were here during the golden years are likely tapped out for increases. Benefit of putting in 35+ years anywhere and getting 5-15% increases every year plus big CL bumps. Unfortunately, this is a thing of the past and will be the rare exception to the rule thanks to low cost countries, the ranking system, the companies debt, poor business decisions and the eventual transition to a contractor majority gig economy.

For most scenarios in this forum, depending on what filter you apply, historical vs present, both sides are both true and false. Unfortunately, the present filter is the reality we live in.

I had a good interview recently. Asked for what I should be making here and they agreed. No fuss. Likely hearing back soon as there are huge experience gaps across all Industries. Act now while it’s hot. God Speed my non bootlicking brothers and sisters!

@OP They’re not.

Nobody outside of O&G is willing to pay the inflated salaries that XOM and other O&G employees seem to expect for doing next to nothing. O&G employees walking off the job and getting a 30%-50% bump in pay is an urban legend being repeated by disgruntled older workers who were shown the door.

EM brand is now O&G version of GE, nobody cares. CVX has a better image, they are the Google of O&G, there upper management understands the optics and trends to play to, and our management are very very nice. Also, they get hybrid schedule and are still WFH likely until 2022, feel free to come over.

I am currently going to a tech company after 8+ years worked for ExxonMobil. I was once a very proud XOM employee but I cannot remember when was the last time I felt positive about my career here. I was able to remain very well ranked up to this year when for the first time in a lifetime I had my downgrade for no reason it seems. In my opinion, leadership has lost sense of reality completely. The things they do to their once loyal employees is just disgusting and I decided I will not be supporting this any longer. I felt very sad when I sent out my resignation letter (even though I wish I could say it was the best thing that happened to me). People in here can say what they want but the truth is that it is all just really sad to see our careers being trashed like we were just numbers to the company we gave our lives for. I leave good friends behind but all I can say is that all of them are fed up with all this and I’m sure they would rather leave if they were given the option.

I have encountered some employers who find the exxon brand to be toxic, but that didn't stop me from finding other companies that focused more on my skills and experience.

Because the company used to have a good due diligence process in place. The employees were vetted well, worked hard, and followed guidelines. The workforce at EM today no longer represents these qualities.

Silly geese.
In all areas but perhaps petro engineering or some geology, EM on resume has been doodly squat for years now.
Math:
Chemistry doctorate from Oxford / MIT + 10 years with EM = Purty face.

EM brand name will soon be a bad thing to have on your resume. EM was good in the past. Last decade has been a disaster in terms of talent management.
