I retired last year after a lifetime career in the O&G. It’s going to sound crazy but I miss EM even though I’m glad to be gone. I guess old habits die hard. I keep returning here to stay updated on what’s going on instead of enjoying my retirement and never looking back. Funny how things work out.

Doesn't look like things worked out for you if you are still checking! Get EHAP, it;s free for a retiree, talk to a therapist, and move on. I retired the minute I turned 55 - couldnt get far enough from this toxic, exploitative dump.
Really, you need to find other interests or go back to work.
I retired from EM at the age of 65. 35 years was enough. After retiring I got as far away from corporate culture as possible. I am never ever going back. EM provided me with financial independence so at least that was one good thing.
It’s probably because you will never know what it would be like if you had stayed longer. Honestly be in piece because this company has become the trashiest of the trashiest places to work for. Management is clueless and there is no career opportunities and decent pay raises.
I retired last year after unjustified NSI. Fortunately RE at 61, could not be happier. Miss people not ExxonMobil.
It’s the cult mentality, battered woman syndrome, and stolkholm syndrome. It’s a real thing.
At least poison the well a little bit, old-timer.
Got to give it to the man (Darren Woods) for such memories! That last a lifetime!
Worse CEO of all time but he is the boss.
I PIPtired last summer; a year earlier than planned. Although there are things I miss (some fun irreverent colleagues, sometimes interesting technical work, helping a younger colleague understand something, ...), there has NOT been a single morning where I was wishing I was getting in the car to fight Houston highway traffic to go to work.
I visit now and then to reinforce my decision to have retired at 56.
It works.
I have friends that were PIP’d last year. They still do the same. Much of it is disappointment. Like having a toxic ex. It’s love hate.
Stockholm Syndrome. Get help.
