Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Headline: Let employees stay home from expensive campus or lose 30% of workers

This is written about big tech but seems to apply equally to our white elephant of a campus:

Companies should hire from areas where they generate most of their revenue from. If most of their revenue comes from India, then yes - hire more Indians. But they should not expect to get revenues from an economy that they are not supporting.

Forget work from home-I say work from India-Fire expensive American and Europeans. If we can work from home then we should be able to work from India or BA, or KL

Non core EM personnel should WFH, if possible. It’s a waste giving non cores space in an office when they can process paper work at home.

@1bfe+1cd7wu5h yes, we know that (1-0.08) raised to the fifth power = .66, so 34% not 40%
You probably think you're so smart, but in fact you're really dense. You must be an EM manager, because you are really missing the point. Just like the typical EM manager who looks at a powerpoint presentation to ensure the main bullet points are 12 point font, and sub bullet 10 point font, etc. etc. Meanwhile he misses the real message of the presentation because he can't get past the fonts!

I agree. For office based paperpushers, WFH might be the way to go.

For those actually engaged with daily operations (especially offshore) WFH is like ‘defund the police’, a stupid idea on its face.

Sorry, I did not mean to offend anyone. Just my opinion.

5 years of MLRP at 8%/year, that’s 34%, not 40%.

Employees engaged in operations aren’t going to WFH. Try drilling a well from home. It doesn’t work, especially for offshore deepwater operations like I am evolved with. Why would I even want to WFH when I now get every other month off and live where I want.

Folks pushing paper in an office based job, yes ok, maybe. I can see the attraction. But, for those working complex, high spread rate, front line operations, forget WFH. It’s not happening, ever, ever.

Get it into your brains. Why work around dangerous chemicals when you can get 100x the pay as an executive with 100x less the danger and accountability?

People with the capability to do so always take the easier, safer jobs.

That office space in texas has to be filled to the brim to receive Tax Forgiveness.
A quarter of EM's profit comes from Tax incentives and write-offs around the globe.
Another quarter from government subsidies around the globe.
Texas office space state and county tax incentives alone in the 10s of millions.

It's the economy, plutocrat.

We only lose the non-productive eaters. Those of us that keep the refineries and production facilities going have not been able to WFH throughout this COVID event.

5 years of MLRP at 8%/year, that’s 40%. EM needs more bleeding.
