Thread regarding Anthem Inc. layoffs

Trying to keep my job

I have become very anxious since rumors appeared that there could be cuts before the end of the year. I work hard, I try to do my best because I really care about keeping my job here for a while longer. It doesn’t matter what I think of the company but it is in my interest stay here for a while longer. I know that hard work is not crucial for someone to keep their job. ----I would like to know what would increase my chances of keeping my job....

Pretty much your dye is cast when it comes to a RIF. The actual RIF form that managers fill out uses some ratings like knowledge, performance review ratings, years of service, specialty knowledge, etc to rank you in a way where they won't get sued for letting you go. Honestly, it can come down to money. The RIF I was part of processing paperwork for, was more or less "we need more $$ cut" give us more people until the magic cut $ was met. I would not sweat it, if you get a RIF notice and want to stay at Anthem, start filling out applications.. that is what I did when I was RIF'd years ago. I took the first job offer I got, knowing I could move after 1 year. I'm still here, and i'm actually happy with my job as I'm entirely self directed in what I do, and as long as I produce on my deadlines, i'm left alone. Good luck

Why would they be planning for layoffs when this vaccine mandate could eliminate a solid chunk of the workforce? If they’re entertaining layoffs, they’re a special kind of special.

You can’t really do anything to increase your chances of keeping your job. But you can prepare for the inevitable by updating your resume, establishing / re-establishing connections in your network, and brushing up on any skills you think you’ll need to land a new (and better) position in another company. If you end up not getting RIF’ed, all good, but if you do, you’ll be one step ahead toward finding a new job.

The layoffs are coming. Best to be prepared on all fronts. We could stand to cut a good portion of VPs IMO.
