Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

Being an employee at Barnes & Noble is now the equivalent of being a toilet cleaner!

File under: How to get rid of long-term employees that cost the company too much money.

Employees from all the stores are complaining about having to clean the store bathrooms. But now you know one of the reasons the keyholders got a $2 raise; so they can’t complain about cleaning the disgusting restrooms or doing all the other cr---y jobs the managers should be doing.

This is nothing new for my store though. I remember years ago, our Regional Manager told our store manager to fire the cleaning company because it’ll be cheaper to have the staff do it. Since then, some quit, several people have gotten very sick, and I think one had hepatitis and was gone for quite a while. I won’t even get into what the cleaning chemicals are doing to your skin and lungs. There is a reason they have professional cleaners come in but B&N doesn’t value what they call “booksellers” but I’m sure they’ll change that title too with the latest restructuring after closing many more stores after the holidays.

Spent more time cleaning bathrooms and mopping the cafe than I did putting a book in the (very few that come in) customer’s hand. I could get better pay & more hours at a Cleaning Company!

Best position at Barnes and Noble is part time bookseller. None of the promotions are worth the headache. Work three days do your job and don’t over expose yourself to that place. I should have never excepted a full time position, the store manager who promoted me isn’t even with the company anymore and I sometimes dread coming into my store.

Our store is in a mall and for years was used by mall employees and mall customers because it was cleaned professionally daily and they new it. Weekend traffic requires the staff to keep up it gets so much use and gets to be disgusting, deep cleaning after weekend traffic requires a professional service. They should close them to the public now and let cafe patrons and mall customers use the mall restrooms. Perhaps Mr Daunt can come clean up for us Monday morning!
