There are major governmental hurdles to an acquisition either way. HHS, DOJ, and every state. Especially now with consolidation, none of these entities like further consolidation and less competitiveness. But rumors have a way of being partly truthful.

"Humana" does not need to be able to afford Centene. Humana merely needs hedge funds to give it the money to buy Centene.

I wonder if Humana could actually afford to buy all of Centene. Seems expensive for them.

My gut tells me CNC may be spinning off a specific product - maybe Pharmacy and/or Medicare. Or potentially selling an entire acquisition (Fidelis? Health.net? WellCare?).

Wellcare’s Medicare business may be up for consideration. They just rebranded it all and I believe Humana was interested in buying WellCare before Centene did.

No insider knowledge. All speculation on my part.

Maybe the other way around? Take a look at Humana's layoff board. And Humana is requiring vaccines for all by the end of Oct or termination. That is one way to reduce the workforce prior to acquisition.

Wouldn't surprise me at all.

Centene has not been running itself like a company interested in doing things the right way for long term stability, but a company cutting all the costs it can to make itself an attractive takeover target.

Everything has been focused on getting by in the short term, with no consideration for long term affects.

The execs want their payouts, let the buyer deal with the long term fall out of all these bad decisions.
