Thread regarding Anthem Inc. layoffs

Good old times

I can’t believe this is now a company I used to love working for and where I stayed even though I once had the opportunity to move to another company for a better job. And what does that loyalty mean to me now? Nothing. To have to look at obvious favoritism every day, to try to justify other people's behavior because we are all under a lot of stress, etc. I don't understand how they managed to turn such a company into a place where people are now waiting and wishing to be RIFed?

Yes, and that is why Apple and other large companies are setting up shops in states outside of California where the courts will protect Apple and not the workers. If I were earnings millions of dollars a year, I might work 14 hours too, but for salaries that are just normal pay, not so much. You also need to remember how much those millions will pay for everyone else to handle what would be a normal person's responsibilities outside of work. I used to report to a Director that would work 90 hour work weeks on end (not at Anthem, of course....). He ended up in rehab from taking too many prescription uppers and then sleep aids to work those hours. Lost his marriage and his kids from it. No Thanks!!!

You wonder why. It just depends what type of person you are getting.

Steve Jobs at apple. He worked 14 hours a day. Everyday.

Some companies are like this. Others are not. The choice is yours. New presidents. New bosses. New changes. Decisions are not always correct.

He wanted Apple to be a company of “A players,” which meant regularly cutting B and C players, or pushing them with great fervor — bullying them, to some extent — to become A players.

Those that stay do more work.
Those that leave get relief.

The choice is yours.
