Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Recall of the Week (starting the week of wrong again) F-350 Super Duty.

Unintended movement, another punch in the gut for quality. Its only Monday and we have our first recall. Not sure if the SUPER name fits the performance. 9/12 Motor Safety Org reports:

Ford (NYSE: F) has announced a recall for 27,604 Ford Super Duty F-350 pickups due to the risk of the vehicles stalling while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.

The recall includes the following vehicles:

2020 Ford F-350 SD
2021 Ford F-350 SD

Recall summary
The driveshaft is what transmits power from a car’s engine to the vehicle’s wheels and keeps the vehicle moving and axles are shafts that deliver power to the wheels and rotate with them. Due to a supplier error, the drive shafts in the recalled vehicles may separate from the rear axles, resulting in the vehicle stalling or “unintended movement” while it is stopped.

Risks
A driveshaft that disconnects can lead to a loss of power while driving, increasing the risk that the car may be hit from behind. Unintended movement may result in the car hitting people or property behind it. Both of these increase the risk of an injury to the car occupants and people around them.

Warning signs
The driver may experience vibration and/or shaking while driving at highway speeds or shuddering upon acceleration.

From NHSTA: Ford has 32 recalls impacting 4,500,000 customers in 2021 ytd.

At least we are first in something.

So sad that no one cares (customers still do)

No one cares about recalls? Tell that to the head of Toyota and Honda. Tell that to the customers who are brand loyal and are happy with the vehicles they purchase. And also tell that to the owners that go back Time after time after time to the Ford dealer. No one cares? That’s ridiculous.

Meanwhile the RAM truck wins awards for quality and continues to dominate the market in the rural areas where people actually drive a truck because they need a truck.

It almost seems like the F150 is a fashion statement for urban dwellers. Fashion is fickle.
I have a bad feeling that a fashion change will upend Ford’s Apple cart. Oh wait our future is DATA, never mind we don’t need to build and sell vehicles.

No. One. Cares. About. Ford. Recalls.

Frankly even if they did, we spend so much on advertising that coverage would be minimal. No auto content publisher we do business with is going to write some scathing article on a recurring $50B customer.

Why is there not a fire burning under Ford managements seat right now to fix our broken engineering, purchasing, and assembly issues.

It’s like everyone is numb to another recall and we move the news on to ridiculous stories like poaching special project employees from Apple.

Don’t ever think that customers don’t see this and it will have an impact on their brand decision at purchase.
