Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Is this familiar to you?

Long story short - there is nothing that I have not been criticized for lately, and I have been working here for several years, I work probably more than ever and I have never experienced such criticism before. It is more than clear to me that I need to look for a new job, but I am interested in whether this is happening lately to others as well?

Now retired more than 20 years, I was in management school when compensation was brought up to the speaker-a compensation specialist. To an upset, new management person questioning why his salary was lower in Detroit than in Toronto for the same job, the speaker got tired of listening to the rant and finally said, "We can buy you cheaper in Detroit than we can in Toronto." End of questioning, and we moved on, much the wiser for having been told that fact. I never forgot that at the bottom line the new people are cheaper than the old ones, like it or not. I have no doubt pushing out the old for the new is good financially for any company if run by as-----s.

I no longer work for State Farm but this happened to me a few years ago while I was still employed there. A racist TM who had just been hired to replace my old manager wrote me up within 6 months of her being there. I have never been written up at State Farm prior to this racist verbally abusive TM who told me that I was not worth what State Farm was paying me among other cruel things that I cannot bring myself to write, she said that I was close to being fired due to me not reaching my metrics I had 300 plus claims to my name when I left, I repeatedly asked for help and all she could say was you are not taking accountability and wrote me up again for asking for help. I called HR the next day and they basically told me that they could not do anything about my complaint because I was written up and I asked to switch managers and they told me that they do not have the power to do that, I resigned that day and my life is much better without the farm, I am making close to 3 figures now and could not be happier. For anyone who needs to hear this, Quit Now there are so many employers who will value your good work and your mental health is what is most important.. trust me the grass is greener on the other side

@1gqh Without Claims SF would be a different type of company

I’ve been in claims almost 30 years, and ever since a specific CM took over almost 2 years ago, it’s been an absolute debacle. She thinks all claims employees can do all claims work. Plug & Play. It doesn’t work like that, Karen!! Auto Property Damage cannot go out and write an estimate on a flooded house. It amazes me we still have policy holders. All upper management sees now are the dollar signs in their bonuses. Meherle is rolling over in his grave.

If claims was fully staffed by anyone’s measure there would still be more employees in the remainder of the Company.

@wza That's obvious by the previous posts that state Claims is severely understaffed

The majority of SF employees do not work in claims.

There are a lot of well funded workplace analytics resources who have lots of data, fancy tools, not a lot of sense, and feel the need to prove themselves.

I am not in that situation. I am fortunate that i have a great boss that truly cares about me and my development. I am not sure i could have hoped for a better relationship. It sounds like folks kn this site should sit down and share with their leaders how they feel and how they want to be treated.

Agree, if you are in the that 5-7 year time frame do what ever you can to stick around for that pension and get your time in. If not, stay out of claims and find a different career other than insurance. Hey find a good doctor or psychologist and you can ride that gravy train out for at least 2-3 years if you need it to retire. Tons of people do that at SF anyways. It used to pi-s me off when I saw people doing it but not these days. Remember you can not steal from a thief. Lying to someone that is lying to you is not wrong. They have the knowledge and play their games then it is ok for you to do the same to them! Would not loose one single ounce of sleep over it. They will let you go at the drop of a dime if they think they can do without you! Turnabout is fair play! People with no morals and values usually win because most people are decent, hardworking...they count on your good conscious catching up with you because they have no conscious or soul!

It’s the nature of claims. All insurance companies work this way now. I am middle management and have worked for 4 big companies in the last 7 years. Here is an suggestion, if you are close, maybe 5 - 8 years from 55, and you are with a company, it “maybe” worth it to consider staying.

If you don’t have a pension, then it frees you up to look around. Job tip, don’t go to another insurance company in claims. It’s the same stress story everyday.

AI is a dangerous road and policyholders and their data sold, shared and info security and consumer and employees rights will be a thing of the past

Staffing Model Defined:
Hire/Train-tell you how wonderful the opportunity is
Things are pretty good the first 1-2-3 years
You get that first promotions to RA2 or RA3.
They pile on the work and micromanage you to death, almost literaally!
Fire you, eliminate your job, or push you out the door due to the horrible work environment/expectations.
Repeat process.........
This keeps labor expenses low, not matching much in your 401K, No pension for new employees, health care cost stay lower with younger work force.
They keep enough 20-30 year employees around, that can't leave because of their salaries and pensions, to bail them out, train new employees. That window is closing fast on them and they know it as these people check out early! When all the knowledge is gone they have to have AI take over....I don't think they will make it.

Yeah. Many compliance and blatent stuff from “leaders”

Say anything to compliance or anyone amd called a troublemaker and retaliated against quietly. You get to do the dirty work while others get big titles and pay.

Ridiculous orchestrated HR plan and mistreatment of existing employees. Fiasco

@pjo You'll learn you can only put 10lbs of fecal in a 10 lb bucket. Try and put more in and it gets stinky and ugly.

@pjo You will soon learn how what you are doing is worthless. Once you get over midpoint they will micromanage you to death and your 3's will soon become 1's. Don't drink the Kool Aid.

I'm a high performer in injury claims, I hit all my merits my TM reviews. You know what we concentrate on? How I can help my teammates that are always behind, how I can do more. People go out on leave, I get extra claims because my inventory is the lowest on the team. But we all know come review time, I'll get a 3 just like all the other CSs I've been helping every day.
