I started at USAA not too long ago. I like the team I work with and everyone is nice. The problem is the compliance work will over rule any passionate work you were hired to do. Basically this has led to distrust. What you interviewed for is not what you do if you are in IT or an IT person in business. You are d-mbed down to do remedial work which actually could be done by interns or newbies in IT coming out of college. This happened to me. I tried to persuade my manager that I want to do more and work on things I was hired to do and have expertise in. What occurred is stop signs everywhere. They have like 3 to 4 people doing one persons job and its just silly work. I thought I was alone but I am not. Attrition is the new key word. IT professionals are bailing at all levels for 20 to 30 to more percemt salary increases. You cannot blame this on the pandemic nor on the industry as a whole. I was never aware of any disparity in pay till I became at my lowest and started looking elsewhere a few weeks ago. I have no doubt I can get 20 percent more pay now. Internally you cannot apply for 12 months in your current role and your manager gets notified which is not always customary at other companies. If I am like everyone then what happened was I got grunt work...tried to voice...got denied...started looking internally...then gave up...looking externally...and it looks a lot better. Thats the way its goin whether you are in CAO or Bank and so on. I too thought I would retire here but I bet I won't be here in the next 6 months. So the good news is there not laying off but employees are the one laying off USAA. I hope this sheds some light on things.

Yes I was lied to also. Promises made promises broken. Many like me left and did not stick around. If anyone is in same boat know this...there is more money you can be making and use your talent.
I was also hired to do a job I never got to do. Bait and switch is the name of the game at USAA. It has happened to 10 of my former coworkers there. We all started around the same time and we have all left within 2 years. Lower pay than market unless you are in an exec role. Despite throwing money at them, the exec ranks are extremely weak which is why they find themselves in the mess they are in. The bait and switch isn’t just in IT. It is everywhere in the company. People are afraid to speak up. No trust. They are just leaving.
I also work at USAA. The pay is very low compared to market rates. I came into IT with a masters degree and was just getting a tad over 100K. They wouldn't negotiate. I came from a high cost center and they used the "more buying power" in San Antonio card. After 4 years, I'm putting in my 2 weeks notice and have a job offer paying me over 35K more. USAA tries to play how the benefits are so great. My total comp includes social security taxes (that any employer would have to pay). Benefits are not paying the bills. I know so many disgruntled employees there. Middle management really sucks; in my time there (4 managers with moving around and re-orgs), there was one good one and one mediocre one, the other 2 had no leadership skills whatsoever.
