Lazy “Expert” bookseller

So former department managers have become “expert” booksellers at my location and we have this one guy who has been with the company for 20 years who has no clue how to merchandise or concept a table. Like he will just use tables as dumping grounds for excess quantity titles from our back stock or titles we just have a lot of in the shelf. Even when his leads put out new signage for a table he will over time just dump random quantity on them without much regard to the concept or theme of the table, sometimes he even removes the signage or prevents our staff from making signs, like he wants the tables as generic as possible. Our VMS manager is tightening up how we do tables so we had a talk with the “expert” about the tables and this guy argued that the shelves are to tight which makes shelving hard for him and he does not want back stock cause staff may never get it out blah blah blah. Lol. Pretty much he’s a lazy POS who wants to fill the tables with as much cr-p as possible so he does not have to replenish anything. Our tables look terrible and don’t sell at all. He has to learn to put leaner titles out than short list the ones that proof their sellers and fill the tables based on demand. This is apparently to much for him, so our tables are full of old cr-p no one wants. I really hope someone can get through to him so our leads can build better more creative tables without him ruining them. We are trying to get better and do things the new way and with new enthusiasm but we are saddled with old baggage and lazy “experts” with bad habits

This is nothing new, staff is never creative with tables they all place random titles on them and hope they sell and any time they get signage thats more specialized and require some thought to merchandise they just don’t use it. I don’t how some of these people are going to survive this new era they are truly booksellers in name only.
