Thread regarding Ford layoffs

If you thought Ford was a good neighbor, we’re not…

From the Detroit Free Press, which usually only prints our fluffy press releases about how great Ford is:
A fuel spill at the Ford Flat Rock Assembly Plant has been identified as the source of vapors containing the potential carcinogen benzene in the city's sanitary sewer system the past few days, a spokeswoman with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy said Friday.

"(Ford) has taken measures, including inserting plugs into the onsite sanitary sewer system to prevent it from entering the city’s sanitary system, at a location north of Gibraltar Road at the Ford Flat Rock Assembly Plant property," EGLE spokeswoman Jill Greenberg said.

Greenberg said initial estimates are that between 1,000 and 3,000 gallons of unleaded fuel spilled from the leak at the Ford plant.

diversity (acceptance of both water and gasoline) and inclusion (of gasoline with water).

Better diversity and inclusion training with a dash of empathy may have prevented this.

What bothers me is that the system was suppose to be sealed (closed loop), so why was there an exit from the system into the sewer? Sewer taps shouldn’t be in a closed loop.
From published reporting from inspector there clearly was a sewer tap that the inspector required a plug

@4tzl+1cFYDqs3 - I agree totally with your last sentence.

As far as the question of what changed/what happened? I am sure that we will never know the actual, real truth. But one thing I know for sure it was not due to (1) the person responsible working from home (while the tank was filling up), (2) any type of work-life balance program, (3) diversity/inclusion, (4) young, inexperienced new hires, (5) management, (6) company culture.....you get the idea.....

Well, now that I wrote that down, I figured it out. Some old, white guy, non-management with a Ford pension must be responsible! That narrows down the search considerably for who is responsible. I guess this will be the perfect reason to step on the gas and have another round of SRD type events.

As I watch this fiasco unfold on the news, I'm thinking that something like this doesn't 'just' happen. A poster mentioned a pretty good track record at this plant. What changed? Budget cuts? Short cuts being made? Changes in management?

The real culprit of this will probably get promoted while Ford finds a scapegoat to fire.

The plant will be closed all week, the city of Flat Rock had to cancel a two day festival for next weekend, the affected area was expanded to FOUR SQUARE MILES, and the Great Lakes Water Authority sewage treatment plant is affected. This will be VERY expensive and coming out of NA bonus.

Well, this is getting expensive. Already a $1 million fund set up for evacuated residents just for hotel rooms and gift cards. Next up: lawsuits from residents and the sewer system operators, lawyers are salivating.

My question is with all the evacuations going on around the plant are they gonna continue to put their workers in danger come Monday?

The plant has been operational since 1972 with no history of pollution violations.
Unfortunately accidents happen and they did not try to cover it up.

The company and this plant does not have a CYA culture regarding environmental issues and concerns.

If you actually work at FMC and know of covered up pollutions violation then turn them to state and federal agencies. Put your words into actions.

I read that story this morning. They waited a few days to fess up. They thought the leak was smaller. RUFing kidding me? Last time I checked there are several methods to know how much fuel is in a tank. Culture is in total CYA mode. Now we will have to sit in some bu-----t training that will suck 2 hours of your life away! All because of the gross incompetence and liars that are in positions of power!
