Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Much worse than layoffs

is that they are cutting the best people. That's awful.
Is it possible that they laid off a man who passed on an opportunity to move to a better company because of his loyalty to Cenovus....
He will surely find a new job very easily because he is an excellent employee that most companies would like to have, but what will Cenovus do without such people?

Clearly when a company is looking to make cuts it is for a financial reason.
Laying off as many long-timers as they can will help keep the overall number much lower. People who have been there 10+ years are generally making far more money. Layoff X people or layoff 2X-4X people? It's pretty straightforward.

40 000 oil and gas jobs that are gone since 2014 and they are not coming back. Time to maximize whatever time you have left and yes take your package. Why would you leave with that cash on the table? The environmentalists want our industry to die just like the Cod industry in the east. If you’re young enough go back to school and take a trade or become a teacher/healthcare worker. No government is helping us. Take care of yourself and your family. This company will NEVER look out for you. EVER

CVE and industry have been cutting talented people for years now with little to no remorse. It is sad and a kick to the gut but the people who were laid off today are no more special, important, or talented than the ~900? ex-CVE let go before them. Integrity teams are some of the last dominos to fall and they take it personally due to their specialized nature and expertise but it is business. Loyalty is dead. Right or wrong, the company made a decision that they are better off without this person. If this individual is a tenured employee then it all worked out for them. Join the ex-CVE club like the rest of us, collect the package, and move on to that coveted position that was mentioned.
