When Cindy-Lou-Who brags on Rail Age that NS has cut 55% of Mechanical workforce there are probably more cuts coming. Transportation is letting bad orders out of the yard on the regular and the engines are garbage. Wonder why?!? When NS is voted #2 worst place to work in America & still striving for #1. Whats wrong with this picture? Oh, by the way I have been looking for work but I’m caught between a rock and a hard place because of my wage and age. The man who mentioned being “handled” they want us to look at cars in half the time or you’re “handled,” if you miss something they want to “handle” you, if you follow their orders and the train is late they want to “handle” you. Wonder why morale sucks, the cars are in disrepair, and the power is sh*t? Figure it out.

you didn't run because you didn't know any better. When I tell non railroaders stories about what goes on at work they think I am lying to them

The first words out of the mouth of the guy who did our safety training in Georgia were. “Welcome to NS, where they spend 8 weeks trying to hire you, and they next 20 years trying to fire you. “ Should have ran right then.

If T&E is the jail, then mechanical is the Alcatraz.

Actually I call BS on that, Mechanical Guy. Mechanical Dept was the only place I ever saw vending machines with good stuff like AA/AAA batteries in it, fridges with freezer pops/squincher drinks and break rooms that were fairly nice. T&E gets bare Minimum facilities and our vending machines would barely have gloves and glasses let alone useful items like batteries, and crew room fridges were always empty of anything but employee bought items. T&E is like jail you don't have anything unless you buy it yourself from Commissary.

Mechanical is way different buddy. They treat us like we are there to steal money from their pockets. In normal companies maintenance is treated with some respect because they are needed to keep the plant running. At NS they are treated as a cancer.

You got a target on your back, obviously. I don't see a Trainmaster for 6-8 months at least doing my job, let alone worry about getting hunted down!

I went in signed my papers and don't have to put up with it any more. Life is good with no NS. Best of luck to you guys that hang with it, I truly feel for all of you.

I'm not justifying anything! Just had to change my perspective. I no longer let NS control my life, I do everything in my power to help them get to the bottom as fast as possible! When my 14 year old supervisor has a du----s idea, l just smile and say sounds great let's do it! It sucks, but if you can't deal with the stupidity, move on. But if you enjoy a good show, stay with it, watch the supervisors go crazy trying to get the reports in line. Race to the bottom!!!

Working at NS sucks, that’s all there is to it. It is not worth it. Take a slight pay cut or even make the same $ and at least have weekends off. It is such a blessing to not have to dread going there to work anymore. And now go ahead with all the current employees justifying their misery...
