Holiday Time Off

WTF...... We were recently told that only 2 people can be off work the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and New Year's Eve. That is a total of 6 people who get time off at the holidays. Not even everyone on my team will get time off.

HOW IS THAT OK?!?!

I've been with WF over 10 years and this is the first year it is that restrictive..... I'm so glad that families are a priority. Time to start looking elsewhere......

Maybe there is information missing here, but there have been restrictions on how many people can be out around the holidays since I started. Half our team has to be in, and you pick one of the Hollidays to be off around.

years ago where in a group that had to have constant coverage they just put a policy in place to give priority based on tenure. If multiple people requested the same day and you need to decline one that one was whoever had been with WF the least amount of time.

it's ok in that our end of year is December - take pto at other times spread out - what do you think retail employees do?

Seriously? Spoiled much? Been with WFA for years, always been the case depending on staffing levels. Those days are Not holidays. I bet you complain you don’t get off early on holiday weekends when you are already working from home too.

Before I switched to a different LOB it appeared to be balanced in allowing PTO for the holidays. On my team now, the same people ask for the same holidays every year and get it (including the manager). As soon as they can access the new calendar, they request the time off, leaving everyone else screwed. It happens everywhere....

Sounds like you just need to find a job that doesn't require this. Just because you're off doesn't mean the company stops.

What is this occurrence BS? I can send a text message in the morning to my boss telling him I'm going fishing today. And he'll reply back asking if there is anything that needs to be covered.

We have PTO, not sick days.

I am in a production role and have been for over 10 years in similar roles/departments. In years past, we had to have 50% coverage, so everyone got at least one holiday off. For whatever reason it changed this year to 90% coverage (which is more restrictive than any other day of the year I might add).

People were selected randomly with no regard of seniority. That also really bothers me and doesn't seem right.

I am well aware that it could be worse, but the drastic change after so many years seems to be overkill.

I know I have the PTO and zero occurrences, but I will not call in for this, that is unfair and only hurts my team.

Just sucks......

Not sure what group you work in, but all groups need "coverage". In my experience it means one person is on call, can work remotely, and checks their emails a few times a day. Obviously that won't work for someone in customer service or the branch. Often someone is clean out of PTO by Christmas, so they have no choice but to work. Problem solved.

Try working in some areas of Corporate Risk where PTO truly does stand for ‘pretend time off’’! You are encouraged to take time off, but don’t schedule it so it overlaps with someone else and always be available if you are in PTO to respond to questions as need be.

This isn't unusual and has been the standard for years in many LOBs. It's really not that hard to come up with a schedule that makes people happy. Have some take the day before Turkey Day off. Christmas is on Saturday, so Friday or Monday time off gives you some flexibility. This really isn't insurmountable.

Don’t get occurances throughout the year and call in. 1 occurrence can be used for up to 6 days I think it is.

How were those six people chosen?

Good thing for me there's only one person on my team who has seniority over me when it comes to PTO.

You have sick days. Use them.

Good luck. It's pretty much like that everywhere because EVERYONE wants those days off and they need coverage.
My coworker used to give me he-l.
Probably better off working in a school. Those days are automatically given.
