Follett is so private. We all expect they are not doing well as a company but does anyone other than the Executive team know? I can look up information about BN College and see, at least, that there stock is doing horrible. I know Follett is a private company but I am just tired of not knowing what’s coming. I have a job offer right now but the hours will be worse. Pay will be a little more. Lose some vacation at first. I wish I had a crystal ball that told me whether I would have a job in 6 months. Anybody there have knowledge of major changes or are we all trying to make it through the fall and see what happens?

How long is a typical contract for?
The SM in New Trier knows his stuff unlike those recently employed by Follett in this region: External applicants with no experience of how this retail model works.
Then, to top it all they are left with inadequate training & expected to keep the numbers up.
For now...I don't think Wheaton will last past the next contract and I don't think Dominican will last too mush longer. I also don't see it for Loyola based on the SMs leaving so much. I have heard that the schools are not too happy with Morton either, or if we are doing the outer suburbs- Harper, GSU, Lewis, and COD also seem to be having problems keeping the schools happy. The only college near Chicago that I have not heard bad stuff about is Triton.
Still have Dominican & Wheaton?
@1ncc+1c1FIZmZ - Lake Forest. They have closed most of the Chicago stores in the last few years. They are down to Loyola and a couple of stores in the suburbs (Morton & New Trier High). Even Northeastern closed.
Funny - Layoff board for Baker & Taylor...

2008 also?
Odd, last posting on their board was in 2019. Maybe a much happier place to work?
A child in kindergarten in 2008 is, today,a college student hating their follet operated campus store as you read this.
What Chicago store closed? Didn’t think there any left, except maybe northeastern or loyola.
Take the job! Things will not get better with Follett. I don't know if you are full-time or salaried, but they are probably going to cut hours once rush is over, so you may go from FT to PT, or salaried to 40 hours to 35 hours to 30 hours, or they could close your store and tell you you're done at the end of the week. This happened to one of the Chicago stores last week. If you work in home office, they could easily cut you at any time.
If you are not 100 percent sure you want to leave, at least tell your boss about the offer, and let them decide if they want to make you a better offer or let you go right before Rush. Good luck!
2008? Wow. How. Recent.
So Private? Really?
2008????

Yes, the richer you are, the harder it is to know your business.
Did buying Baker and Taylor add to the family wealth or was it another money pit? Who knows. Is Follett operating at a deficit? Who knows?
Seems like they probably lost money on the ADC right? They sold the Oak Brook property they owned but put a lot of money into the Ivory Tower which they don't own.
Previous poster is spot on, not going to be a better place to work in the near future based on how the business has been run in the past 10 years of so. REALLY BAD DECISIONS.
This company won’t be out of business in 6 month but it won’t be a better place to work than it is now. When I get an offer, I’m gone.
